You know, if it weren't for the actual monster and the absolutely unblinking way Our Hero executes people, this might have been a really good movie. No, seriously. You have good actors, you have serious conflicts and arguments that aren't sugarcoated, you even have that rare role in a 50s movie where a woman is the probably toughest character in the entire story... and then the monster is, to quote Frank Zappa, an inverted ice cream cone. A pity. Still very much worth watching.

Good script and acting with bad special effects and lots of moralization. Roger Corman delivers another low cost movie worth watching.

Superficially different from similar B-movies of the time, but not particularly more competent or entertaining than its kin.

Surprisingly thoughtful, while still being enjoyably silly.

The monster alone makes it :-)

The story isn't actually that bad for a 50's movie. It's different than the usual Scifi stories from then. The alien's design looks so cheap, but that makes it fun. Acting isn't great. For example: a plane explodes in the air and 2 people see that happen. All the woman says is: 'horrible', and continue their conversation casually. Not shocked or anything.
