Imagine that you've fallen asleep in front of the TV. You are dreaming that you are a child. You meet this nice old lady. She offers you candy. You eat it. She offers you more candy. You eat. And more candy. When you can't eat any more, and you want to leave, she holds your head, and starts shoving candy down your throat. And more candy. And more candy. THEN you wake up. You're an adult again. But you're watching this sickenly sweet fairy tale. THIS is the point where you start screaming.

Cheesy feel-good heartstring puller that doesn't do much of a job. And Rosie Perez is intensely irritating.

No, it really couldn't. Only chumps play the lottery, much less give away half the winning ticket.

Damn - Turner Classics has some garbage in their queue. Any time the comic relief falls on the shoulders of Rosie Perez, you're gonna feel robbed of a little life. Nick Cage is not good when he's kind and unassuming. He should only dwell in depravity and confusion.

Everthing is super nice and family friendly but therefore also super bland. I feel sorry for Rosie Perez as an actress!

Every SJWs nightmare. White hero cop falls in love with pretty angelic white lady, who is a much better person than his nagging, materialistic, egotistical, petty poc bitch of a wife. He also stops a robbery, where a stingy Asian's store is held up by a Muslim crook. Oh, and there's a wise old black man trope narrating in between. :) The ending was really thick with the cheese. All the courtroom stuff and the uncalled for "Oh, I'm not good for you" plot line. Otherwise nice lady porn.

This should have been charming but Rosie Perez's character was so ugly, and not because of her acting, but because of a script that seemed to need to vilify someone on its way to getting a nice police officer matched up with a better mate (specifically a cute blonde who is polite, although not without spunk.)

The script is by the numbers and predictable for this movie. But the cast work well together and they make the mediocre script better. Overall I would recommend this movie.

Loved this movie as a kid, and just saw it last night 21 years later.. It's a cheesy story with some cheesy actors but it's a feelgood movie. I enjoyed it!

"Nicolas Cage has a uniform fetish": Doomed I deem the person who's brave enough to witness/these dumb little adventures of kind cop and waitress/despite difficulties and troubles, don't worry, they'll be soon/exultant and over Manhattan in a smiley air balloon/and though it seemed the film had something small to say/drowned it was by stupidity and miserable cliché/and since potential was done in since this rom-com's lill' proem/it ended up, oh naturally, as stupid as this poem.

Always worry about movies that are "based on a true story" This is not Nick Cages best work, but isn't his worst either. Plus Rosie Perez is always a joy on screen. This is story about keeping your word. Average film, enjoyable but not spectacular.

Yep. Rosie Perez still needs to die. However, even if her role were recast with a human female, this movie would still suck more than a black hole.
