It Stains the Sands Red

Though strangely lacking of any red-stained sand, this off-kilter zombie movie proves novel enough...at least for the first and possibly second acts. There is something endearing about a Vegas escort in a latex mini-skirt and spike heels being tailed across the desert by a half-eaten businessman attracted to the sweet scent of her soiled maxi-pads. And to think, that's only the second time in my life I've had to write that sentence.

An average zombie b-flick with a great premise, sometimes falling into the realm of very bad, sometimes clinging to something marginally higher brow. It feels as though someone had an idea, but little notion of what to do with it; so we just stumble from montage to montage, one "perilous" scenario to the next, with zero tension. It's not nearly as poignant, emotional or witty as I think it wants to be, but it isn't entirely unenjoyable.

A solid effort. It's not groundbreaking, but it's also not boring.

While this brings nothing new to the zombie genre, the movie has a different formula. One woman + one zombie + one desert=It Stains the Sands Red. Not a bad movie.
