Banned in most civilized, decent countries. Rated PG in America, because the MPAA was (is) staffed entirely by violent sociopaths with 400 dollar a day PCP habits who are inexplicably offended by conversational swearing and exposed breasts. Pretty fucked up movie. If you like fucked up movies, here you go.

While I find the idea of a killer newborn as interestingly odd as paying audiences must have back then (it made $$), it doesn't change the fact that this stretches 30 minutes of material to 90. It's exciting when the killer's born early in the movie, but the next 50 minutes or so involves lots of pacing & worry by a good actor who mumbles through cigarettes & gum & everyone believing in a killer baby they haven't seen w/ some asides laying blame on the usual suspects - society & corporate greed

Viewed October 23, 2020. Larry Cohen's tone is so oddly specific. His movies exist in this weird space between brilliant and ridiculous. The ones I've seen do not fully work but leave a lot to ponder.

A well-paced first half gives way to a pretty mundane second once you realise it's not going to stun you in any way and the only reason the baby is kept off-camera so much is because of the non-existent special effects budget. More of a drama than the cheesy horror the title suggests, it's still laughably silly in places (particularly the way the characters treat this phenomenom with such a blase attitude). Perhaps not deserving of a mark so low, there's just nothing to recommend here.

I was tired, I was bored, and I consciously allowed myself to fall asleep. The dad character annoyed me, and I couldn't buy into the premise. This is a horror film that could definitely stand a remake.

Oddly satisfying in how serious everyone takes this ridiculous premise.

Really low quality, and yet--this movie starts with a baby clawing every doctor in the delivery room to death, and then escaping THROUGH THE SKYLIGHT. Badly executed, but very unique and pretty nifty midnight movie.

It's the best pro-abstinence PSA I've ever seen. That being said, for a film like this, I don't think it's too much to want a little baby murder by the end.

I mean, if you're gonna make a movie about a mutant baby who goes on a killing spree immediately after being born, this is how to do it: with loads of dark humor, clever camerawork, and empathetic portrayals of the confused, anguished parents. Gory, jarring, weirdly heartbreaking, with a grandiose Bernard Herrmann score to boot. A fascinating shocker.

All-around decent movie. It's not a very scary "horror" movie, but it's got a brain and a heart and a good performance from John P. Ryan.

What is it with the cigarettes in this film? Why's it so slow? And why are people in horror films always so mean?

Lowbudget and lowbrow but with an undercutting sense of social satire and senserity. Sounds weird. Is.
