Having seen all of Linklater's (as of 2014) 17 feature films, I can now call myself a completist. Though I love his best work, I have to say that this is something I do not recommend.

Boredom and indecisiveness are two of the prominent themes in this film. I liked this movie a lot. It is a great film but it isn't very entertaining. It is great as a piece of art that a person watches to figure out what kind of person the director is deep down and we get a glimpse of that in this film. "Why'd we do this? Climb up here," he said. His friend answers, "Gotta do something." Two of the characters say this after hiking. I think this phrase captures this film perfectly.

Talk about film concrète, this montage of the mundane may have some value for authentic portrayal of its cities and settings, but the cinematography is just too murky to pull that off. The only good part is when Daniel Johnston and his music show up.

The first thing one wonders is what the "plow" of the title is a stand-in for... living? Movie-making? Considering how incredibly gifted Linklater is at writing dialogue--dialogue that feels like things actual people might really say--it's a bit disappointing how little anyone says in this. The title itself is longer than almost all of the lines spoken by anyone. The camera is a passive observer of a guy who, it turns out, is pretty passive himself. Still, it's enthralling in its own way.

Linklater's first film isn't really much of a film. It's mostly just him popping a camera onto a tripod and filming himself wandering around. But hey, if it led to the greatness he would create later on in his career, then it's all worthwhile

DVDRip no MakingOff.

Elevates mundanity to an art form. Oddly soothing and captivating in all its uneventfulness. As a lover of independent cinema, this is about as true to the spirit as it gets. It's endlessly inspiring and has boatloads of character.

It could be seen as pretty much as the prequel for Slacker, with a super wholesome cameo from our dearly departed Daniel Johnston.

Ironically probably the best thing Linklater has ever done.

Bold and self-assured but also thoroughly dull.
