I don't like the term "Chick Flick". That said, this movie is really a chick flick. Musics are every bit of synth 80ies. Main character and her inner world depiction is silly most of the time. Passes time.

"And she dreams a whole new world!" Some probably won't appreciate the aesthetics of the film, I found it charming. I loved how pretentiousness/sophistication of Gabrielle slowly fades away, thanks to Polly, a quirky, confused, talentless (for work) yet genuine and dreamy woman. It got me thinking how menacing it is to lose purpose, sometimes in a single moment, event in one's life. Critics satire was damn funny, really makes you wonder. Polly returning to work after being crushed was inspiring.

Intelligent, thoughtful, and utterly charming. The plot summary does not begin to suggest the multi-dimensional subtlety of this movie.

Charming and quirky. The film doesn't seem to accomplish much during the plot's progression, though I'm not sure that's what the film was about. Definitely worth appreciating for its treatment of non-heterosexual relationships and feminine image, if not for it's actual enjoyability as a movie.

Had high hopes for this one but it was too uneventful and I couldn't take the eighties aesthetic. Maybe it just hasn't aged well as it's themes on gender have been done much better by the films that followed in its footsteps.

I guess considering Camille Paglia loves it, i should have known this wouldn't be very good. Still, as an attempt at a sort of postmodern feminist comedy thing it's sort of admirable, but stylistically it's a confused mix of Woody Allen and maybe Atom Egoyan's films from this period, but cheesier than either (or maybe even like a comedic All the Vermeers in New York?). It doesn't help that the protagonist is obviously supposed to be endearingly awkward but mostly just comes off as irritating.
