Jailbreak

Presumably the success of Indonesia's The Raid has resulted in other Asian countries attempting to duplicate the cheap but inventively brutal film & this one's Cambodia's. Unfortunately despite a great set-up/excuse to watch unarmed men pummel each other for 90 mins, the fights are repetitive, not fresh. Despite using a lot of obvious jump cuts to aid the choreography, this lags way behind its inspiration which mixed some jaw-dropping stunts to a visceral violence that remains unmatched

Most of the fight choreography is excellent, particularly the energetic, kinetically filmed rumbles, and the film features perhaps the best female martial arts duel I've seen. Luckily the story is just light padding or it would have weighed it all down unbearably, though the last request of Playboy was actually quite funny.

Cambodia's answer to the Raid was entertaining. The film was made on a shoestring budget and has some terrible acting but the fights were pretty freaking cool and there were lots of them. The movie seems to just end abruptly which either set up a sequel or was a letdown, I'm not sure which.
