It's easy to imagine someone not liking this bc the tone switches so dramatically w/out warning. The first 30 mins are grounded in a serious realism that makes the mystery of what's going on extremely compelling. But the reveal turns this into what could be just another vampire movie & things become less realistic & more over the top. But it's definitely not just another vampire movie. It's relentlessly unpredictable & is thankfully about more than "empowerment". A little absurd but thoughtful.

A pretty fun, and fairly original vampire movie that's unpredictability also feeds into an unevenness. A good find for die hard horror fans looking to go off the beaten path.

It had more to say than it had to offer but it was fun which is all that should matter in the end. Larry Fessenden looks like if things didn't work out for Jack Nicholson after he made One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

For a vampire film it doesn't suck and wait yeah that's a good thing still. Some vicious out of nowhere gore moments that surprise you after some questionable cgi rat nonsense. Barbara Crampton still great! For a vampire film it doesn't suck and wait yeah that's a good thing still. This is a lot of fun. Barbara Crampton in a leading role is something the world has needed for a very long time, & as is to be expected, she kills it. Larry Fessenden is excellent as Jakob & nails every aspect of the character. He & Crampton's dynamic is great, they play off of each other very well. Plot-wise it is admittedly lacking a bit, as there's several loose ends left hanging & the ending is iffy for me, but overall it's a good time. Worth a look. Oh, and there's a CM Punk sighting.

Travis Stevens seems to be one of the rising horror film directors of recent years. Girl on the Third Floor was quite enjoyable but this film is much more absurd, bloody, funny and entertaining. Jakob's Wife doesn't take itself seriously, and this creates many memorable scenes. Really good vampire movie.

I like when writers and movie makers take a concept and try to do something different with it. This one has a pretty interesting and unpredictable plot that's never quite going to reveal a character's motivations fully, so you don't know where they might end up. It's got some weaker, slower moments, plus loads of blood gushing from jugulars and decapitated heads. The excess of it made it a bit confusing as to how much this movie is trying to be a black comedy, but... I guess it was that?

A fun watch, just don't expect much horror more like social commentary on the life of an ageing suburban couple.
