Jandek on Corwood

I don't have enough space to write my complete thoughts on this pretentious home video of superfans discussing what they "think" Jandek "might" be like. Trust me, I tried. But I will say that I wanted to slit my wrists during each of the 88 excruciating minutes. I'm glad that the filmmaker and fans didn't hunt the guy down with camera in tow and chose to respect his reclusive way of life...but newsflash!...that kind of means that you have no basis for a documentary. Ugh.

Poor Jandek...I hope he's OK with my score. Just kidding...we know he doesn't give a shit. The synopsis had me riveted, but the execution of this "documentary" (endless talking heads intercut with "artful" set pieces) was very poor, and based almost COMPLETELY on speculation and conjecture (remember, this is a documentary). When you combine that with the droning Jandek score, and well, this was not a pleasant, interesting, or enlightening experience. Count me amongst those who don't "get it".

Jandek is the bomb, this film is not..

one gripe: those pointless, cheap and nasty graphics which accompany sections of music. apart from that, a painstaking dissection with lots of interesting (rather than cool) people involved. mmm...
