The further adventures of the least interesting character from the first movie. I like Roy Scheider, but I like Spielberg more. And Murray Hamilton is the Burt Young of this franchise and I mean that as condescendingly as possible to the both of them.

Yet again a town is under attack from a shark and the mayor and city officials choose to ignore the dangers Can't help but wonder if someone had a crystal ball and was looking into 2020 ? I like this one better than the original it felt more faster paced and action Kids in danger and outrageous scenes I can't decide between shark taking down the helicopter or Bbq shark ending

Nowhere near the first Jaws, but it's not a bad sequel in my opinion, it's just kind of there. The impact of the first film is gone here. Some good acting doesn't quite save this from being meh.

The trend setting "Jaws"(1975) paved the way for big popcorn flicks as the first summer blockbuster, and in classic Hollywood fashion that meant the road was clear for $EQUEL$. As a follow up story goes the movie has its issues, but isn't terrible. However, it was in a terrible position trying to follow up the original. With the shark already out of the bag the sequel tried to give audiences more shark earlier on, but this monster shark movie didn't do enough altogether to make it noteworthy.

My weird fantasy sequel of Jaws doesnt have a shark in it at all, just Brody suffering through insane PTSD where everything from the water sets him off until by the end Brody is the one eating the Amity Island swimmers.

One of the few films where NOT ENOUGH teens died.

Cinematic reheated leftovers: has the same taste, since it slavishly apes Spielberg's style and duplicates the first film as much as possible, down to having a John Williams score, but mainly it just makes you wish you were enjoying the original recipe. Still not as bad as some rumors say, though.

What if we redo the first film, but worse, and add a hundred teens that are nearly indistinguishable? I realize it was the 70s, but Scheider wolf-whistling a teenage girl in a bikini feels weird, especially because his wife and kid are right there.

The first ok, was a classic. But a sequel was not necessary, still less 3.

No Speilberg, Dreyfuss, Shaw, or Williams' score? Poor Roy Scheider -- he deserved better than this. Basically a rehash of the original "Jaws" reimagined as an '80s slasher flick (attractive teens in distress, jump scares, dumb adults, cartoonish, gratuitous gore). The best of a craptacular tio of sequels is about the only praise I can lavish upon this wasted effort to deliver a worthy followup to a classic. Then again, I'm sure that making a good film was pretty far down the list of priorities.

It's not GOOD as such; goes on far too long for the little plot there is, repeats too many beats from the original, and makes the classic horror sequel mistake of not killing enough people. (Why would you cast this many annoying teenagers and not kill them?) But I have a soft spot for it if for no other reason than it being sooooo much better than the rest of the sequels.

It never comes close to the classic status of its predecessor, but for dive-in horror thrills, this still has sufficient bite.

(Viewed in 2016): Szwarc is no Spielberg, but he did the best he could. Saddled with a mediocre script and no Dreyfuss, it would have been impossible to match the quality of the original. The human drama is regrettably stale; Scheider has nobody strong to play off, none of the characters are particularly interesting, and even Brody has little to do other than to constantly warn absurdly suspicious officials of the looming threat. It is saved by thrilling death scenes and an intense finale.

Painfully mediocre sequel that adopts plot points wholesale from the first (and inferior) half of the original, but completely lacks the tension and wonderful characters that made the (2nd half of the) original so great. Scheider is alright, but he's not given much to do here other than say "Hey, I know something about sharks!" over and over.

I expected much worse, so maybe I'm being generous, also I don't remember the original much. This movie feels more hateful, though, particularly because the characters aren't very likeable, but that kind of works in a film where you're expecting them to die. The shark and its attacks are actually quite well done tense but also funny at times in their ridiculousness, right up to the climax. It loses a lot of what made the original a classic, but as a streamlined shark attack film it works ok.

This is the product of money grubbing studio execs. That never turns out well.

I think the first Jaws is overrated. Obviously I'm not thrilled about this film.

Not nearly as good as the first, even though the premise is pretty much exactly the same. There was a few genuinely scary moments but overall it was pretty dull. At least most of the original cast returned and there were some tasty girls in it. I was entertained but not particularly interested. And the ending was a bit "Really?"

Of course this sequel will never live up the original--too overly contrived. But, Scheider does the best he can with the script and manages to bring life to a potential cheesefest. Recommended.

Obviously not as good as the first, but it could have been a lot worse (see Jaws 3 and 4).

Jaws 2 catches a lot of criticism for being inferior to the original. Which is true. Most spend all their time complaining that they don't seem to realize this sequel is nowhere as bad as it could have been. The shark scenes and tone match the first well enough. It doesn't quite win in the story department because of some forced dialogue, overlong scenes, and too many characters. However the film is well made and satisfying enough when one takes a step back from the original.

It's a movie about a shark attack framed by a police chief with PTSD who really shouldn't be carrying a gun. Not enough shark kills of main annoying characters. Poor shark really got destroyed in the end. Fav scene: shark attacking the regatta including a freaking helicopter.

Ridiculous a lot of the time but quite entertaining and easy to watch. The first half is essentially a copy of the plot of the first film, it would have been far better if there actually wasn't a shark initially but Brodie was so paranoid he thought there was.
