A video project realized by Jean-Luc Godrd in 1993, a succint look at a unique image of war. It's a reduced version of his film Letter to Jane, of which Sontag wrote "The film is also a model lesson about how to read whichever photograph, how to decipher the natural un-innocence of the frame, angle and center of the photograph".

The visual conceit is simple but excellent, and very well executed.A brief but powerful study in contextualization. The narration is solid, but perhaps overreaches a bit. I felt its tone was a bit off and some of the content a bit of a stretch. Still, a lot of content for less than 3 minutes of film.

Harrowing and beautifully executed. The last 15 seconds never fails to make me nauseous (in a good way). Godard achieves more in 2 minutes than most directors do in their entire careers and THAT'S why he's the greatest to ever do it. "When it's time to close the book, I'll have no regrets." (two times)

very emotional and absorbing. i have mixed feelings about the art references godard summons, especially gershwin, but the drama evoked by a simple picture analysis is, notwithstanding, amazing.

It is remarkable that a great filmmaker is able to do so much with so little, in comparison to the vast bulk of contemporary cinema. In addition to the themes of war, violence, art and culture, this film has a fascinating way of juxtaposing the different characteristics of cinema and photography. Surely one of the greatest movies ever made under 3 minutes duration.

it is certainly a rather powerful film for such a short running time, though i felt the narration pushed a bit hard, ruining the mood a little.

“I have seen so many live so badly, and die so well” just, wow. In a couple of words, in such a simple image he says so much. Magnificent.
