pop-metal and 'post-metal' tend to incongruously and transparently spruce up musty traditions with contemporary appeal, so i can see why dumont thought they'd be the perfect soundtrack for this dorky down-with-the-kids origin story. i mean it's charming enough for a while, but i prefer eugene green for this kinda thing.

It loses some of its steam in the last 30, 40 minutes or so. But it deserves some credit for staging scenes in nearly the same location, with identical lighting from start to finish. Also, always good to watch medieval people headbanging and even rapping.

The joke is great and gave me a grin for about half an hour. Doesn't hold for the whole duration of the film sadly.

Sounds better on paper than it is on film. Jeannette is one of the most ridiculous films I've ever seen, seemingly made only to be campy and not offer much in the form of entertainment or substance. It has some mildly humorous moments, but none of them are terribly clever. The medieval comedy has been done to death. The writing is too easy and redundant. Think of one of the worst John Waters scenes and imagine that being an entire feature film. Somewhat painful, terribly mind-numbing.
