Several interwoven narratives make up this drama which left me with mixed feelings. Geffen, not unlike her novelist husband and co-director Etgar Keret, is good at quick fixes and knows just which buttons to push to instantly disturb, amuse or (in most cases) sadden. Her transparent manipulations are highly effective but lack resonance, brightly luminous moments are fast-burning and quick to fade. Overall, its intelligence and impact outweigh its superficiality by a small margin.

The interlocking stories thing is a played-out premise, but Keret and Geffen bring a playful freshness to it. Poetic in spirit and highlighted with a dash of magic realism, it's just a beautiful and meditative piece of work. These characters are brought to life with small flourishes, and their struggles with loneliness resonate. There are a few moments where the filmmakers put too neat of a bow on something, and Joy could be fleshed out a little more, but overall I really loved this film.

"Jellyfish exists in a no man's land, adrift in vague, waterlogged abstractions on which the filmmakers can hang their characters' collective baggage." - Paul Schrodt

Three storylines, loosely connected, all female-driven. It feels like an indie film, done right.
