Overly simplistic, clichéd, reductive. It reduces its characters to caricatures of how people are "supposed" to react and what they're "supposed" to say, and the two lesbian lead characters look both "safe" (two white women who are beautiful in the traditional sense) and also don't have any chemistry whatsoever. It doesn't make you think, it doesn't stir any emotions apart from boredom.

I get a very 'Christian film' vibe from this because of it's short-sighted and clichéd nature. Katherine Heigl is a lesbian coming out to her family and has to deal with all the negative stereotype reactions one can imagine. The thing is, the film is so careful and conservative itself that they barely dare to show any love/chemistry between the gay wedding couple, and the entire thing becomes really simpleton insulting. On top of that this one has absolutely abysmal dialogue.

I liked the point it made, but it was a bit cliche and slow moving

In 2015, this movie is just really bizarre. Like, if it was 1989 or something, I could see a movie about this old couple's daughter getting lesbian-married and them spending the WHOLE FUCKING MOVIE trying to come to terms with it, but today it goes from tedious to just plain weird. It feels more like a pamphlet designed for old conservative folks about accepting your gay child than anything that tries to be dramatically or even comedically coherent. Jenny and her fianceé Kitty are both ciphers.

The writing and pacing are clunky, but the story dynamics are rather engaging. An interesting family drama.

I rewatched the trailer and still had to text a friend to see if this was that terrible movie we watched once. It was. Reductive and boring.

Heigl and Bledel are bad actresses. It's really unfortunate.

Katherine Heigl was satisfying as the lesbian coming out to her family. Her and her love interest, Alexis Bledel, are gorgeous. The family struggles seemed plausible. Some of the pacing was bad, with a few rather abrupt moments. The story is not particularly fresh, but nevertheless still relevant. A few moments of sister rivalry seemed quite genuine. It's a feel good movie that is not very offensive. Good quality video, music & audio. Moderately entertaining.
