I'm not a believer, so I give zero indulgences, but the cheap voice acting and dubbing, along with phony sentimentality and no care for subtlety, gave the movie a farcical quality. I never felt like religion was being pushed on me because it's a movie for believers only, and it's hardly convincing, almost pure in its primitive illustrations. Botton line, it's like if the filmmakers didn't believe in the movie and didn't care if I believed or not. I was amused.

If you went to a Catholic school as a kid, you saw this like eighteen times.

Although I have not seen this film in many years, we watched it every year in my elementary catholic school around easter time. There is not much I remember but what I do remember stuck with me to this day. I researched what movie it was and I found it was this, and also that it is (apparently) the most watched film on the planet, but its not even on criticker. Hopefully people will watch this film, I am not a christian or a catholic, or even religious, but from what I remember, it was effective
