Jigoku

Bizarre flick about a girl on a tour of Hell, witnessing the punishments doled out to various types of sinners. The majority of the film is taken up by a recreation of the activities of the Aum Shinrikyo cult which perpetrated the subway Sarin gas attacks in 1995, and their subsequent torture and mutilation by demons. I guess this was intended as a sort of cathartic revenge against a group considered terrorists in Japan, but the movie is cheaply made and the gore effects are quite amateurish.

Low on budget, low on ideas, low on quality. Although not completely without charm, it's too sleazy, gory and unimaginative for my tastes. Honestly, I thought the ending shot of the naked chicks was classier + better than every single minute of the movie up until that point combined. Bad bad.

Theoretically this has everything a horror film needs to be successful, Gore, nudity, bizarre visuals, halfway decent acting, and yet the film really fails to be entertaining or satisfying. It's a shame really.
