Mediocre B-grade noir that can't decide whether it wants to be a political thriller with a message about extremism and hate-crime, or a more straightforward whodunit. In the end, neither angles are given enough attention and it all becomes rather dull. There's one surprising twist near the end, and a nice chase sequence through a museum, but that's about it. Franchot Tone gives one of the most uncharismatic performances in a lead role I've ever seen.

The story isn't that bad and the acting while stiff is fun. The dialogue isn't the best, the voice over are weirdly handled, and the framing is odd with most time the person talking is framed front and center with the actor speaking directly into the camera. The premise is the best part of this film and the implications still ring true nearly 70 years later. People give this movie shit but I found it a lot better than many of the Noir films made during the war.

Had ideas, but in a way I found the execution of those ideas for the most part off-putting. So what I ended-up with was an odd (bad?) noir experience.
