Its construction is occasionally awkward and its songs never transcend the film, but the experience is fun, colourful, and inspiring. The costume design is tremendous and Madalen Mills as Journey is an ebullient delight. A number of sequences brought me to joyful tears, but none of the songs were in my head five minutes after the film finished.

I wanted to like Jingle Jangle but Talbert's style-over-story & middling direction render the film prosaic. Mills is great. Whitaker's hair does most of his work, though he gets a good song. The music is alright with a heavy lean on African-American rhythm & blues, infrequently elevating the plot rendering the musical aspect moot. ADR issues also signal a mediocre production. The storytelling/ narration setup is bad, as is the egregious mis-appropriation of science terminology. Disappointing.

Glitzy and festive enough I guess; but drab musical numbers, uneven storytelling and a poor screenplay mean this is not a film that will find its way on to many people’s Christmas rotation.

A charming addition to the holiday movie collection, and important for cultural reasons. The story is sweet, if not all that new, and the music is very good. Madalen Mills is terrific as Journey, but Kieron Dyer as Edison is not. The film suffers from that a bit as they share a lot of screen time.

Netflix puts this on my frontpage. If it is meant to be a kids movie, don't put it on my recommendations. But since Netflix did this, I'll review it as an adult. Verdicht: Meh. Also stop shoving PC stuff into movies just to be political correct. Makes no sense. I saw this movie two days ago and I forgot most of it already. Says enough.

This was made by a person who loves musicals and loves constumes and loves sets and doesn't particularly like stories. It's basically a song-and-dance routine that has a plot only because it has to. Every non-musical scene feels like it was done in one take. Forest Whitaker seems like a bad actor even though obviously he is not. Really weird experience.

Wonderful musical that grows on you slowly over the course of the story. Forest Whitaker is as always great.

I'm not sure why this bored me. I generally like musicals, and this had everything you'd want in a musical, but somehow it just didn't click. Maybe I'll try watching this again after listening to the soundtrack a few times so that I better know the songs.

For all the glitz and pageantry, the end result was just average as. Forest Whitaker is always good to watch though, regardless of the material.

Beautiful scenery and costumes, and a great progressive casting that finally shows blacks actors as... just people, their color doesn't have any significance in the movie. It was refreshing and important to see a math-geek black girl takes it all. However it's a strange choice to mix it with a snowy victorian background. For me it was in dissonance. And the story itself is cute but quite dull.

This film has a good cast that does their best with the material. The script however could have used some more work. There are to many slow spots in this film and the songs are not that interesting. Overall this film is disappointing.
