Jockey

Simmering mood piece makes up for a lack of plotting, or any true catharsis, with its focussed portrait of Collins’ ageing jockey; Collins completely inhabits this flawed, painfully macho character, giving away chips in the façade with throwaway gestures and actions making his quiet, restrained performance riveting. Clearly Bentley knows this world and the people who live it, providing a flavour of the seedier side of the life, as well as the (muted) exhilaration of horse riding itself.

Good performances. The best scenes are the ones with the real jockeys describing the punishing toll their jobs take on their bodies.
