John Mulaney: Baby J

Enjoyable enough set finds Mulaney balancing his fairly dark, bleak material with his cheeky, impish sense of silliness quite well, though this is in a surprisingly serious “confessional” mode rather than laugh out loud funny and on this basis, the material becomes a little too repetitive and scattershot in the back half (especially the adventures in rehab).

Funny stuff. Who brings their eleven year old to a John Mulaney show?

It was really funny, but something rubbed me the wrong way. One comedian pointed out he's a cute little man so everyone could forget all the lives an addict destroys. That was easy to ignore when addiction was only a small part of his act. Now his whole bit is selling his addiction as fun, full of celebrity friends, and mostly just harmful to himself. There is something creepy and dishonest about this special.

Love this man. Weird rep and all.

It was fine. Focuses on one thing for the majority of the show and it just became tiring.

Not many stand ups could turn one day/story into an entire set and have it still be top notch. For whatever problems he has in his personal life, he is still at the top of the game in terms of stand up. He masters the flow of a set better than anybody.
