Johnny English Strikes Again

"Johnny English Strikes Again" is not here to break new ground. It isn't here to satirise the spy genre in ways we've never seen before. But what is abundantly clear all throughout is that Atkinson and company have no loftier ambitions than to make us laugh, and laugh I did. The plot may be thinner than water, the twists and turns utterly telegraphed, but comedy is all in the delivery, and Johnny English is still a damn fine comedic vessel, even 15 years on. A man for all seasons indeed.

Decent laughs from Mr Bean's unbeatable physical comedy.

Atkinson's continued comedic charm (great on its own-see his virtual mission-but excellent when paired with Bough's straight man) keeps this thing afloat like a shoebox inflatable on a sea of forgettable and poor plotting (the climax is particularly eye-rolling), an atrocious villain (atrocious as in bad bad not good bad-his name is VOLTA for Zuckerberg's sakes), and a cringe-y old school ways vs. new school tech motif (though the harkening back to super old school armour at the end was fun).

Hidden in a mire of boomer jokes and eye-rolling plot developments (if they can be called that) are one to three genuinely funny moments (for your consideration: the energy pill, London Lemming, the commitment to the virtual mission). Unhesitatingly the worst of the series.

Serviceable when it comes to overall amusement but definitely far from original, this second sequel to the popular 2003 spy spoof feels like a recycled version of it. Yet, in all honesty, the unapologetically familiar and particularly daft script can be forgiven (besides, that might well be the point), since "Johnny English Strikes Again" does manage to be quite funny now and then: the physical comedy works and Atkinson is an icon even without stretching himself in the least.

They kept it simple and short yet it was enough. I had a good time, some classic jokes still made me laugh. Despite his age, Rowan Atkinson still has it.

Johnny English Strikes Again leans into physical comedy more than its predecessors and is better off for it. The villain (and his scheme) is laughable, and ultimately inconsequential. Atkinson is a national treasure. Thompson channels PM May to great comedic effect. And Kurylenko is very pretty. A simple film, but one that understands its lighthearted tone to its benefit, with several scenes that had me laughing out loud.

Better than the second movie but still pretty weak overall.

I've always liked Rowan Atkinson's brand of humor, as he can go from acerbic wit to physical comedy in the blink of an eye. The Johnny English trilogy tends to hew closer to the physical comedy while mocking British spy movies. This third chapter is a little better than the second; there are some good bits (I particularly liked the virtual reality scene) held together by a pretty improbable plot.

Great johnny english movie, but I have a huge bias for those

I love Rowan Atkinson as 'Mr. Bean', but I wasn't impressed with the first two Johnny Englishes, and I loathed 'Mr. Bean's Holiday' (I'm thinking that maybe the 5 I've given it was a bit generous). So my expectations were definitely low, but, lo and behold, I had a lot of fun with it. Obvious highlights were Atkinson's dancing and his VR "fights". And, of course, lest I forget, Kurylenko in general.

My guilty pleasure is this series.

As bad as I expected it to be. Serves me right.

Not very funny buy not offensive either. Worth watching to take your mind off vicious cycle we call life.

Mostly old hat jokes, but they tried

Aw come on Mr Atkinson, this is just a cheap, lazy and lame attempt. Where is the humour, where is the intelligence. What a disappointment.

Hey, it's Mr. Bean meets James Bond spoof, so regardless of it's lazy plot, the slapstick element will always be what a Rowan Atkinson comedy is all about. And that worked for me and the rest of the family. I'm still hoping for a Black Adder meets James Bond spoof. A extra slimy Bond would be a excellent, but I'll always appreciate him Beaning around.
