The 3D elements manage to turn this otherwise dumb movie into passable entertainment, and I have to admire Fraser's unflappable enthusiasm in the face of such weak material. I guess there isn't a better way to adapt the story to modern times than what they did, but you just have to laugh any time they mention 'Vernians'. Without 3D, this movie would just be bizarre (especially the intro), so if you miss it in the theatre, just skip it completely. Then again, you should probably do that anyway.

Brendan Fraser's films want to make me laugh out loud and they arent even supposed to be funny at all. Fraser's films carry about them this false bravado. He has this smugness about him and this self confidence and really in my opinion he has yet to prove he can anything worth my time. This film had nothing at all going for it, it was immatture and the characters were so low key I didnt even feel like they could even be real at all. I felt no positive energy or sadness from this bland film,

Fun film with a sweet message. Yeah, parts were a little cheesy, but overall it was good. I love Frasier anyhoo though. The dramatic-action scenes never seemed to climatic, but because of that I think it'll be great for kids because no one scary-scene lasts too long. Overall, not the best, but sure could have been worse, and it's a good enough way to spend an hour and a half:)

Really good family film. I couldn't find better film to sit down with my family and just chill and have fun. Only thing that pointed out too offen was that 3D shit. I really hate 3D for lots of reasons. But I liked, my family liked and couldn't ask anything else from family adventure film.

highly meaningless kiddy fluff that on occasion has some nice looking fantasy imagery. it's always amusing to see how these types of films like to combine a heartwarming family message with an all-encompassing optimism, especially in refutation of those grumbling skeptics who refuse to see the truth that anything is possible.

If cinema is a war, this film is a genocide of brain cells. My rating includes healthy bonus for 3D effects.

This is an inoffensive, light-hearted children's adventure movie possessing the logic and sensibility of a theme park ride (presumably it was conceived and pitched as a movie/theme park ride package). For those in the market for truly mindless B-grade entertainment, they could do worse, far worse. Which is not to say the movie has much of anything to offer.

Journey to the Center of the Earth will entertain those who don't care about logic, plot, characters, or good looking CGI, and are only hoping to see something that will pass by quickly on-screen. It does that, but it doesn't do it with any grace or skill, and will bore most discerning viewers over the age of 10.

I'm sure it was a good showpiece for 3D viewing, and Brendan Fraser is watchable, game and earnest, but watching it on TV on a rainy day I was very aware that this was the story of three actors and a green screen, and not much else. I've no reason to return to it.

Mindless and predictable kids' adventure film. Suffers from some cheap-looking FX and feels too much like one long theme park ride, but it passes the time, especially when Anita Briem is onscreen.

I got a jolt of giddiness when Trevor starting reading the cryptic notes in Verne's novel, setting up the adventure to come, but unfortunately, the execution falls flat on its face: Besides the science being under-explained and far-fetched, the action scenes are childish and riddled with cheesy CGI, and the downtime is full of lame one-liners ("Welcome to the 21st century"), bland sentimentality (the kid-conflict is resolved after one scene), and shoddy acting (kid Hutcherson especially).

They made a classic Jules Vernes story into a kids movie with more cheese in it than France, that said there are it's redeeming qualities, all of which are escaping me now.

Could have been much, much worse, but it still suffered from cheesy directing here and there around what could have been a better movie had it had better effects and different advertising I guess. Acting is meh. Interesting production and not too boring regardless... Journey to the Center of the Earth works better as a family night movie over a trip to the big screen or alone.

One of the worst films from 2008 that I've seen. It's loaded with fake pseudoscience and lacks actual basic science when it is staring the plot in the face. The acting was superficial, the graphical effects substandard and the entire film pretty much devoid of anything exciting. As an adventure, this film fails.

Even though this movie is as dumb as rocks, it's a visual trip made more interesting because of its 3D landscape. Some special effects are fun, others wreak, but it's all wrapped up in a package that jumps in your face, so how can you complain too much? Take away this 3D factor, however, and you're left with an odd, lousy and poorly scripted adventure. Kids and parents should have a good time, but I'd check out "Wall-E" long before this.

OK, so there is the 3D, a lot of CGI (as one would expect), a lot of falls, thrills, big dinosaurs chasing people, things flying at your face (courtesy of the 3D effect), some family emotions etc., but in the end, it leaves behind an empty and forgettable film. All the above can't replace the need for a good script and a good story, which this doesn't have. If it wasn't for the 3D factor (and the only reason I watched it in the cinemas), then this movie would have been even more mediocre.

Sure, the writers all phone it in to fall back on 3D effects, but that's what I expected. As for the 3D effects, I found them to be quite magnificent (with the exception of the gimmicky "hey we're throwing things at the screen" moments). The visuals brought me back to a time when my imagination ran wild at such adventure films. Predictable, yes. But I was genuinely excited and I had a great time. Take away the 3D effects and deduct about 70% off my score though. Also, can't get enough of Fraser.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is a fantastic family adventure. It tells the story of Trevor, a college professor played by Brendan Fraser, whose scientist brother, Max, disappeared during a volcano expedition 10 years earlier. Trevor's work at the university has been based on his brother's theories on seismic activity and volcanic unrest, but the funding is about to be pulled out from under him.

Journey to the Center of the Earth isn't something that I would recommend to anybody. It didn't really do anything that special. Brendan Fraser is likable but the rest of the casting is pretty forgettable. Anita Briem, who plays the foxy Icelandic daughter of a volcanologist, is cute but there is something missing that would have endeared her character but I can't put my finger on it. It is probably just a bad script. There are some funny bits, good action, and a few surprises but it's still meh

Fun silly adventure movie that was clearly meant for 3D in your face effects. In fact the special effects weren't too noticeably bad when I watched in 2019. Silly science; might want to rewatch with commentary. Thrown-together romance. At one point even the bird shook its heard since it knew this was bad. Brendan Fraser always makes things better though. Fav scene: WWE-style fight with plants. They should get The Rock for a sequel or something.

Flagrantly silly and goofy adventure is strictly speaking an inconsequential effort, but its joyful and frivolous tone is a welcome contrast to the more ponderous and heavy handed efforts of recent years, with Fraser, Hutcherson and Briem making a delightful team and helping to ensure no lags in the blessedly brief running time. Kept me with a big, silly grin on my face the whole way through and sometimes that's all you need!
