The Rob Schneider Project - day 4. I thought I misremembered this film as being worse than it actually was. Oh, no, it's bad allright. Stallone is a decent Dredd... until he starts talking and *nerdgasp* takes the helmet off. Some of the designs are nice at least (the weaponry, Mega City One, the robot) but it's mostly just formulaic 90's action movie nonsense. Schneider's presence is the unfunny icing on the foul-tasting campy cake. "Court's adjourned!" Schneider-annoyance factor: 6

The final death rattle of the 80ies action cycle and in many ways the absolute nadir of the big budget 90ies equivalent. It is also a movie that I will set aside anything in my schedule to rewatch when given the oportunity. Everyone has a film like this- Something that, by all logic, they should shun like light beer, but that is still inappropriately close to their heart. It goes beyond mere "guilty pleasure". This is the stuff religious cults are made of. All hail... the LAAAWW!

One of those "nevermind the score" reviews: This - and I know I'm being controversial here - is the best movie ever made! It has a 10ft tall robot that growls (guess the designers didn't trust the firing-from-knuckles-feature to be deterrent enough), it has Roy "Hello! Cursed Earth Pizza!!" Schneider, Armand "LAAAW!" Assante and, of course, Sly himself ("Knew you'd say that!"). Too many great scenes to mention, but the Diane "H-haven't you ever had a friend?" Lane-bit, is an absolute high/low.

Well I never read the comic and I doubt it would help me enjoy this if I did. Acting is nothing short of horrendous from pretty much everyone except Max von Sydow. Sets and costumes are kind of neat but they in no way make this movie worth seeing.

Pretty dumb film with dated special effects. This is one of those movies that Hollywood threw a lot of money and a big name at hoping it would all just come together somehow. The costumes are pretty goofy and unfortunately the massive talent of both Jurgen Prochnow and Max Von Sydow were wasted on this cheese. Whoever asked Rob Schneider to be in this should be tarred and feathered. Watch it if you want to laugh at an earnest Stallone giving a pretty unintentionally camp performance.

First impression: "Gee, everything looks like cheap plastic Chinese toys you would get at local Bazaar. Next impression: (after first dialog starts) "So... It operates on THIS level...". A truly terrible writing and execution. Performance by Stallone should be mentioned when talking about worst acting ever. In fact sometimes this film looks like a 100mil. worth elaborate trick played on Stallone by everyone else - Oh, look, he can't act and and we gave him idea he's in Hamlet haha.

JUDGE DREDD's soul is torn between the cartoonishly violent nihilism at the heart of its source material and the commercial demands of making a broadly appealing blockbuster with a creatively, uh, "helpful" megastar. Its visuals and sound are genuinely exhilarating--at least for anyone nostalgic for a pre-CGI era. While the film flirts enough with high camp to make it interesting, it ultimately embraces formulaic cheese.

Rob Schneider is one of the highlights of this film. Read that sentance again if nessisary. While the protaganist is pretty cool, and the basic story outline really had some potential this movie was written by, what appear to be, 5th graders on meth.

The acting was terrible. The script, laughable. The costumes, dialogue, special effects, all deplorable. One of the cheesiest, corniest, most outrageous films I have ever seen. Now, having said all that, Judge Dredd manages to hold your attention, keep you invested, and I'll be totally frank: it's freakin' hilariously entertaining! Judge Dredd wasn't ever a good movie but it hasn't aged well either. There are moments in this movie where I can see that there could be a good movie here. The problem is that when those moments glimmer they are quickly covered over buy a stupid one liner or some stupid plot point that they thought needed to be in this movie. It's surprising how much star power is in this movie but Rob Schneider was a bad choice. I'm sure at the time it made a lot of sense but it's just so cringe now.

Ungainly mishmash of every possible action/sci-fi entry you can think of circa 80s and 90s, shot up with a hefty dose of fallout from the Arnie-Stallone rivalry of the time, but somehow it all works, with seemingly disparate elements (Schneider's fast talking weasel, Stallone's iron jaw and von Sydow's near Bergmanian intensity) coming together and clicking, a fine supporting cast working overtime, and generally exciting and thrilling action scenes to boot. Surprisingly great fun.

Judge Dredd is a quintessential 1990's Stallone flick. It's basically the same as demolition man, only this time, Stallone's character is in the future from the very beginning, so he is already feared by the masses. The comic book flair of Dredd keeps it way over the top from beginning to end, making it entertaining (generally only for guys between 13 and 25 years of age), but remarkably and mind-numbingly stupid. Meh!

Judge Dredd was a misguided film adaptation of the infamous British comic that was wrong from the getgo. Sly was badly miscast as a fascist cop who worships the law like a braindead Kantian, and Cannon was out of his league, promoted well above his talent. It's stupid, unintentionally humourous and quite poorly made, despite some impressive sets and special effects for 1995. I prefer the old comic book films as a general rule, but the Dredd reboot is far better than this.

Judge Dredd has to be one of the biggest wastes of filmmaking potential ever. The source material and fan base is huge and this film could and should of become a big film franchise. But everything is executed terribly. Stallone tries to follow Schwarzenegger into Sci/Fi roles and fails miserably. And Schneider is the worst and most annoying sidekick ever. The cast, overall direction, set pieces, and especially the script are awful. And ultimately this dishonours and insults the source material.

For me, it's full of nostalgia and serves as a great companion piece with Batman & Robin for a bad-movie night. It's definitely all kinds of terrible but Rob Schneider is the worst part.
