Excellent movie with powerful and moving performances from all involves. Raises excellent moral questions while allowing the viewer to conclude on their own answers. In certain parts it does seem to fall to pro-American pride but this is rare and completely overshadowed by the rest of the film's excellence.

My favourite episodes of Star Trek were always the ones where Kirk and the crew somehow travel back in time but Kirk was given absolutely nothing to work with here. Hi, the Holocaust upsets me which is a bold stance to take.

Every once in a while you become aware - always subtly, by virtue of the experience itself - that you have stumbled into the presence of Masters. True Masters of their form and craft, able to take you on a journey you didn't know you needed, to places you never knew to go - but you are ultimately made better by the journey. Rarely have I felt so awed and shaken to silence, by the precision of the technique, yes, but also by the sheer force of impact of the narrative: humanity at its core.

All of the principal actors are pretty good (despite a touch of scenery chewing) and the story is pretty compelling. The Marlene Dietrich scenes are unnecessary, and Kramer uses some showy camera movement in an attempt to keep things interesting, but comes off as awkward.

A really good look at the postwar realities of how the world tried to deal with the enormity of what happened in WW2. The film is filled with excellent speeches and a lot of food for thought about blame and culpability.

Overall it's a good movie. The questions it raises and the observations it makes about responsibility, using WWII and the Holocaust make for a fairly thought-provoking experience. Unfortunately the message and it's manner of execution are completely void of subtlety and it is beaten into your skull until you realize that it has nothing more to say then that.. Also, all the non-courtroom scenes were entirely dull.

A lot of great performances, but man, Clift's are hard to watch. And not in a bad way! Well, yes, bad for the content, but great for the performance. Glad we got that settled. Oh, by the way, this is really good. Just so you know.

This is what filmmaking should be about. Brilliantly written and directed, Judgment at Nuremberg takes one of the most difficult moral dilemmas in modern history and presents it in an engaging way in a relatively short time. The film takes liberties in depicting the trials but compensates with a lot of ethical questions. When it comes to "international law", despite all the atrocities, the most damning crime the Nazis committed is losing the war. The winners will never be prosecuted.

While it does have some unnecessarily elaborate camerawork, a tendency to drift off-track, and a somewhat disorganized structure, the central core of the film--exploration of moral duty and integrity--is unwavering. The film's power comes from its surprisingly honest and forthright approach to difficult questions, especially when it could so easily veer off into patronizing morality or ugly nationalism. The film is helped by a stellar script and a bevy of incredible performances.

All in all I was pleasantly surprised by this. It is a bit naive and simplistic part of the time, the Dietrich subplot is kinda cheesy, and the cast itself - big names and all - is so-so, but then again much of this is genuinely interesting and thought-provoking and that really tips the scale in the film's favor.

Gripping film with some great performances. The procedural narrative is strong; each court room scene was engaging on its own and clearly contributed to the overall story (though these scenes are painted in broad strokes and are occasionally bit heavy-handed). The direction feels odd; the opening montage felt almost like French New Wave (which got me excited), but then there are old-fashioned rear-projection shots and some awkward EMOTIONAL zooms that are clumsy and distracting.

A daunting film, to be sure, but its subject and creation could have been exquisitely school-like without some masterful direction and an ingenious screenplay. The three hour film divided into just nine scenes is absolutely theatrical, with each performer stepping up to plate and swinging for the fences. Most impressively, the insistence of including both sides of each argument is thought provoking and tactfully done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It's fairly long, but not unnecessarily so. The courtroom scenes were electric, but it was also nice to have scenes outside of the trial to breathe and gain perspective. I thought every performance in the film was excellent. I can't really single anyone out because they were all so good. The direction was also fantastic - so many great shots and camera movements. I recommend this film wholeheartedly.

It's a well-made and thought-provoking film with very convincing acting. The engaging court room scenes are the highlight of the film, the other scenes tend to be a bit dull and some of them feel unnecessary. Also the sudden camera zooms seemed a bit out of place. But these are minor flaws, the film is great.

I wouldn't say this film is bad, as it is well acted and brings up some interesting post-war points about blame and peer pressure, but I couldn't help but not be engaged by this court-room drama about a topic this film couldn't get me interested in.

a wonderful reproduction of the nuremberg trials, that is mostly objective in the content, but also subjective in the manner of portrayal. clift does a wonderful job, and maximilian schell is the highlight, even though tracy does a great job, he is outshined by those previously mentioned. this is an amazing movie that should be recognized for it's underdogs, rather than it's stalwart names.

Everything inside the courtroom is well done and quite engaging, but everything outside of it is incredibly superfluous. As far as lectures go, this film is pretty good, but it doesn't achieve anything grand due to its redundancy in its messages and some awkward formal elements.

It’s hard to look at yourself in a mirror and definitively say what we would do in the same circumstances, but we can definitively say what is right and just. It is well worth it to experience and understand that principle.

While everything has been said about this cast, I think Lancaster is the MVP. He's not only terrific for what he's got to do, but he's the emotional climax of the film, and without him the film falls apart. His speech is where the film peaks, structurally and otherwise, and it's a bit telling that there's still an hour left of movie afterward. Kramer and Mann attempt to reveal the ordinary German experience during the war's fallout, but it never quite strikes.

beautiful movie with incredible performances by old school first class actors. the whole translation gimmick was a little confusing at first. Judgment at Nuremberg is such a well-crafted film that I almost didn't notice it was too long. At one point, I was enjoying the acting, and then we had another trip to the courtroom. Now, I start to wonder when is this film going to end, not what's coming next.

If the actual Nuremberg Trials were anything like this, I wish I could have been alive to see them. I was blown away by some of the performances I saw in the courtroom, and I especially noticed that many of the speeches were done in a long continuous shot. Big points especially to Maximilian Schell and Richard Widmark, who both give some great speeches and play off the other actors very well.

This is really a comprehensive view of the post war dilemma, maybe it made some compromising whit some characters being one sided, but you can take this as a starting point on understanding how the German people reacted after the war. Also has great acting and filming, it's very informative and entertaining.

A good watch that neatly covers the main issues in this case involving some interesting characters. There's far too much overacting (Spencer Tracy manages to keep a lid on it), giving the movie a tone in which the concentration camp footage didn't sit comfortably. It felt to me (as Hans Rolfe also feels in the film) that it's use was edging gratuitous and exploitative.

While the sometimes over the top acting and rarer zoomshots are rightly disliked, the argument against the scenes outside of the courtroom doesn't hold. One of the best scenes in the movie (at 1:54) shows the tensions of what the judge wants to see (humiliation and regret) and the cognitive dissonance of the Germans who want to brush it and their responsibility under the rug and move on.

What a great movie. Kramer shoots the court proceedings with a straight forward style, adding just the right amount of precise camera movements to highlight the characters' emotions when the scene called for it. The performances are superb all throughout, with Maximilian Schell shining the brightest. Although I've thought a lot in my life about the subjects presented here, this movie made me think even more deeply about them.

The film spends a lot of time talking about the conflict between one's personal moral responsibilities and one's responsibilities to a job or country. That's an interesting question, but the film spends a lot of time establishing that the judges convicted people regardless of the evidence, which would be illegal within the confines of German law, even during the Nazi regime. Much of the film seems wildly overdetermined in this way, making a hash out of the questions it raises.

The movie's power lies in its exceptional script that throws up disturbing questions on the nature of justice, and accountability for war crimes. Despite being made over 50 years ago, and being rooted in events that happened over 70 years ago, it also offers a prism to view the events of recent years (Iraq, Libya).

Spencer Tracy's seeming innate ability to portray openness, empathy, and understanding really elevates this film beyond a simple courtroom drama. The move from conflict to courage in his character is esp. compelling. Each of the other actors play their roles well (Clift, Widmark). Kramer's camera is too showy for the material, even if some variety was needed to spice up the courtroom scenes. And the film was longer than necessary, though it has an important message about responsibility.

Well shot, greatly acted (especially Widmark and Schell) but somehow lacking and overly preachy. Often we'd get started on a tangent, cut to a completely unrelated Marlene Dietrich storyline, watch Spencer Tracy shop and then go back to the courtroom for a long-winded diatribe in Nazi atrocities. Three hours later, I felt like I had watched the entire trials in realtime. It does however explain what happened to Col. Klink after the war though.

Not merely an indictment of the Nazis, but the severest warning to all human beings of judiciary positions everywhere. I know that it's become a tired hat-trick to compare any political state of affairs you don't like to Hitler's Reich, but let's be realistic here: What will happen if a government's legal system secures patriotism and nationalism as higher obligations than pure justice?
