Judy and Punch

Quite enjoyable for a weekday afternoon at the movies.

the plot is a bit too simple for how clean the aesthetics are and how unusual the setting is.

Judy and Punch has a scene in which Herriman's Punch abridges Gladiator's Maximus' speech. The film suffers from peaking in its opening scene with a more jovial, whimsical tone that disappears by the 2nd act and isn't seen again. Foulkes' ending undermines the black-comedy of the film. Wasikowska's Irish accent makes her Judy less sympathetic coupled with her spending a large portion of the film pouting in the woods, undermines the feminist turn that ending took. Too flawed to be good.

What a waste of good actors, costumes & beautiful sets. The writing & directing were just unsalvageably slow, annoying, unlikeable & tedious.
