I really wasn't expecting much from this, but now I can see why critics and audiences are liking it so much. Some of its juvenile humor may not sit well with everybody, but I didn't think it got in the way personally. The four leads all do their parts surprisingly well. I laughed for a good portion of this movie and I'm glad I got to watch it. In fact, I probably had more fun in this than the first installment. It's easily worth a good watch.

When the first "Jumanji" came out, I was nine, smack dab in the target range, but I remember coming out of that movie having wished that I spent that hour and a half playing with Legos or GI Joes, rather than watching that movie. So, it surprises me to say that this sequel is leagues better than the original, it's highly entertaining from the moment they enter Jumanji. Hart is less obnoxious than usual, Black and The Rock are awesome in their roles, and I would see this one again in a heartbeat.

Hey this was actually pretty fun, I think the community here is underrating it a little. Simplistically plotted, never reaching beyond the emotional depth of a Saturday morning cartoon, sure. But I didn't expect when hearing about some weird Jumanji reboot/sequel a couple years back that it would end up probably being the best loving, knowing sendup of classic video game tropes and cliches since Wreck-It Ralph.

It's a rather novel idea to mix a body switch comedy with a meta Indiana Jones actioner where each character knows exactly about the rules and boundaries of the plot they're in. The teenagers who disappear soon enough are so well drawn that we continue to recognize their behavior throughout the adventure, and the difficulty they face is almost existential for such a tentpole: Can you accept and inhabit the character you have chosen to play?

If you guessed that Jumanji would be a throwaway action comedy, congratulations! You're exactly right; however, don't sleep on it for one second. It's the best kind of undemanding entertainment, full of good comedy and some surprisingly great performances. Despite not being inventive or deep and struggling at times to maintain its video game elements, it does not fail to wildly entertain for one second and is a good time at the movies.

Jack Black's portrayal of a teenage girl is the only redeeming thing about this otherwise exceedingly generic action-adventure. Gone is the wondrous, terrifying flora and fauna of the original, to be replaced by some lame warlord's army. The action is tensionless, and the world's nondescript. Blah. Skip.

The filmmakers kept their formula simple and achieved every result they reached for. The film is predictable and the concept is tacky, but everything works and the final product is actually a lot of fun—a lesson in the KISS theory achieving great results: Keep It Simple, Silly. That each of the adult leads nailed their role and clearly had fun doing it certainly doesn't hurt, either.

When you're talking straight comedy movies, you want to have fun, right? You want to laugh, right? You are in luck, my friends -- this is fun and funny and has a surprising amount of heart. Which is more than I expected out of a movie that, I'll be honest, I expected to dislike or be ambivalent to. There's some stuff here that hooks you -- from the video game aesthetics to the inter-relationships (even the under-developed ones) to the outright foolishness and low-brow comedy. This was just fun.

I think everyone was thrown for a loop with this. Even if all the humor doesn't land for everyone, there is so much fun to be had. Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillian all have insanely great chemistry, rarely do you find to have that much flow in a group, the movie never slows down, it keeps the punches coming and even if you see a few things coming from a mile away, it's undoubtedly fun to still watch go down. Very interesting to see where this goes after its huge success.

Having not given a shit about the original, imagine my surprise when, after watching the remake-boot-imagining, I had no shits to give for this one, either. The Rock appears to be having fun, and Karen Gillan is easy on the eyes in her midriff-less sports bra, but watching Jack Black and Kevin Hart stain the celluloid with their tired brand of reactionary humor is like watching the US Supreme Court rule on lesbian cake abortions at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.

It feels like a different script that just got the Jumanji name slapped onto it & they inserted a few little references to it. It's the boring type of bad, where there's nothing significantly wrong with it & yet, I didn't enjoy myself. The premise is fine, but they don't do anything interesting or exciting with it. I don't mind the cast members as individuals, but they don't really have chemistry together. Overall, it was just a dull, predictable movie that didn't try hard enough.

Presumably Jake Kasdan is the reason for this working since all of its other elements (a comedic reboot of a sucky high-concept film no one was asking for starring actors who are mostly one-trick ponies who haven't fared well in scripted comedies) suggest I should hate this. But, surprise, the comedy's good enough to grab & hold my attention & induce enough laughs that by the third act, I'd come to like the thoroughly likeable characters enough that I can imagine sitting through a sequel.

Lazy film making that is the very epitome of what's wrong with contemporary event films. The functional opening scene is emblematic: a kid casually stumbles across the game on a beach, takes it home, presses play and a green light emanates from his bedroom. It plays like an afterthought. Even the worst 'blockbusters' of the 80's and 90's made an effort to start with a bang. There is no inspiration powering this vehicle whatsoever. It's a film by committee scored to the sound of a click track.

Everyone involved is having the Best Goddamned Time of their lives and this effervescence carries the film through the ludicrous plot and derivative fetch-quest meta-game story. I see genius in the performances and we need to collectively redefine what acting excellence is for popular film comedy.

I was off put by the crazy character transformation getting into the game and by the video game movie format. It was moderately amusing though. Karen Gillian was unexpectedly gorgeous and cute when being awkward. I might have laughed out loud once, but there are several humorous moments. The story is not well developed, nor was it particularly engaging. A mostly decent waste of time.

The in-video game premise is clever and fun (see the NPCs) but the stakes feel low, despite the limited lives and creepy (crawly) baddie, and the emotional arc is pretty weak too. More importantly though, the adventure-action is good, and the comedy is great (even if it slows down the pace a little too much at points); the four leads excel in their high-school personality roles and bring lots of laughs (Black as the stereotypical popular girl is a highlight, but they all have their moments).

Hardly comparable to the original, as it brings the jungle in the city back to the jungle, so it's more of a straight-forward adventure film. Funnier and a little more emotional than expected. Great casting and I like this Hart/Rock dynamic they got going on. Really, the Rock elevates most of the movies he's in because his charm is alluring. Some really good jokes here and the ones I didn't laugh at didn't elicit a groan from me, meaning that hey, no comedy will get you 100% of the time but at least the jokes aren't shit.

Watch: in theaters for big kaboom action. | So this isn't a Jumanji movie. It doesn't have the same flow or feel of Jumanji/Zathura at all. There's a couple scenes in it that link it to the Jumanji universe, but that's really it. That said, this was a very enjoyable movie! Watching these guys act like they're awkward teenagers is a riot and the movie is very pretty. Don't watch it if you're going to be critical. Do watch it if you want to see these guys being silly.

Here you go Millennial kids: a Jumanji sequel that mashes up Breakfast Club & Indiana Jones. However, the action-adventure is just so-so, even though fanboys could dig how he translates gamer language to a lay audience. The director is good at getting laughs via comedic actors (as shown in reusing performers from his underrated Orange County.) and The Rock and Karen Gillan's performance. It could've been a bit more aggressive, but as a mainstream popcorn movie it gets a marginal recommendation.

A surprisingly enjoyable action adventure family flick. I'm not even that big a fan of the original but here the board game is upgraded to a video game and it was fun to watch these characters navigate within the rules of the medium. The four leads play off each other well but credit must go to the Rock who is perfect as the main 'hero' and his charisma carries a number of scenes.

A Fun action comedy. Nothing crazy special with it, but overall a fun laugh filled time at the movies. Every charactr, before the Jonas Brother, gets actual characterization and does a good job of switching between jokes and being serious when need be (Especially better than some current blockbusters like Star Wars or Marvel or DC). Jack Black gives an amazing performance as a teenage girl. Really nails the role in every aspect. As good as RDJ was in Tropic Thunder

direction made my eyes hurt but the jokes made my sides hurt. That's an obtuse way of saying it's damn funny. You expect the cast to be funny but they knock it out of the park, not just the delivery of the jokes but the remarkable (career pinnacle performance for Black) way they act as avatars of archetype teenagers. The challenges aren't as mystifying or daunting as the original, nor is the action much, but this is a through and through comedy and it excels at that

The grand visuals were obviously designed for 3D viewing and that hurt my home viewing experience. It was saved by the cast and their ability to generate chemistry and comedic situations. It sort of falls middle of the pack story wise as it does not really do anything complex and extraordinary. It plays out like a simplistic video game, one that goes for visual style over story.

Very different from the original Jumanjis (the book, the movie, and its sequel). That's not a bad thing though. Basically, this movie is the high quality version of your teen slapstick politically correct popcorn comedy of the month that 99% people will enjoy watching. It's definitely no masterpiece, but it's fun and entertaining and that's all I really wanted from this. The idea is clever; transforming the board game into a video game, to match modern times, and characters playing different versions of themselves was super entertaining. There are certainly a lot of plot holes, and perhaps an unnecessary romantic troupe, but there is a nice homage to Robin Williams and that's good by me.

Not as nearly as bad as expected. The reboot of Jumanji is in fact a very enjoyable experience, mainly due to the excellent execution of the old body-switch gimmick. Jack Black is completely believable in his reprisal of a coquettish teenage girl, The Rock, Gillan and Kevin Hart not too shabby either. Great chemistry, a few decent jokes throughout, a decent nod to 90s and video games culture. I hate to be the one saying it, but as a throwaway comedy I'd recommend it.

Risible action adventure with some of the charm but none of the thrills, style or emotional clout of the original. The screenplay-by-committee is dumb, hokey juvenilia that barely establishes characters or their arcs, largely undermining the self-discovery narrative. I appreciate the videogame-positivism, though it is overly simplistic and underplayed for a savvy 2017 crowd. Despite these shortcomings, the four leads are fully committed, providing good entertainment, laughs and pathos.

Mostly just bland, not terrible. Jack Black's teen girl impression is easily the best part of the film. Not EXACTLY sure why they used dirt-bikes as the main chasers, because it took away a vital aspect of "jungle"; most of the animals were simply cameo roles. That said, JWttJ was very entertaining with a really likeable cast (both parts). The plot was simple, but using some good vid-game ideas (characters guarding locations: having set reponses) and the avatars harking back to their real-self "issues", this was a great way to spend a couple of hours. I know I shouldnt say it, but I love the Rock!

It perfectly captures the ethos of the current blockbuster era: there's something for everyone, but probably little that speaks to you directly. Predictably all the teenagers transported into the game learn about themselves and to work together and not be as much the dysfunctional types they started the movie as but, while it isn't deep, it is great fun and an enjoyable watch with nice nods to the original and also to video game tropes - the characters in the game were played well (though some did change attitude a bit too quickly to be believable). I had fun watching this occasionally cheesy and often very funny adventure yarn.

The characters are super-annoying teenagers and it's downright idiotic that Jumanji is now a video game considering how hip boardgames are right now. As I adore Jumanji, I was skeptical towards this one, but to my surprise it held its own rather well. Great modern version adaptation, I had a little gamegasm when they used "NPC". Sure, it lacks some of the original excitement and magic, as it drifts away from the real world and plays out with The Rock on a helicopter. Most surprising film of 2017. Jokes absolutely killed throughout. Jack Black stole the show. Somehow didn't ride coattails of first movie very hard.
