The director is a bit of an insufferable narcissist (we get it: you're a genius), and this documentary, like "Dear Zachary," suffers from an overuse of melodramatic cliches (which are totally unecessary given the horrific subject matter). Aside from that, it's a punchy and honest look at the multi-generational effects of child abuse.

The complete lack of objectivity was jarring, powerful. I cringed through some of his talks though, setting himself up for some great fall from that spurious positive thinking guff. So many unasked questions; agencies, neighbours, friends. It was really just a portrait of their pain.
