Kærlighedens smerte

What a downer of a film. Much better than 'Sorg og glæde'. And, as the two tragedies cover some of the same ground, I might have thought even more of 'Kærlighedens smerte', had I seen it before the final and weakest film of Malmros' career.

A strong character portrait of a woman struggling with psychological illness. The meticulous way it builds up to a depressing latter half shows the talent and confidence of the direction. I wish the dialogue had a more natural and less literary style as I found it taking me out of the movie at times.
