Exhilirating story of a group of Japanese students struggling to make a film. Yanagimachi juggles several subplots in his large cast with Altman-esque ease. In fact, I'd say better than Altman. I really cared about these characters and their problems. The movie was completely captivating, a great look at filmmaking and youth culture with a heart-pounding ending.

Yet another film about life imitating art. That's okay, I never get enough of them. This one is similar to Truffaut's Day for Night in that it's a real treat for film nerds, as the characters spend a lot of time talking about how the stuff going on around them relates to other films and stories. The greatest strength of the film is the way it manages to make all the different members of the film crew, as well as some other characters, come alive.

Unduly neglected (an idiotic review by Jay Weissberg in Variety may not have helped), this is an enjoyable, interesting and ultimately affecting reflection on cinema and murder (much better, for example, than AURORA, viewed just before this one), as well as on cinema and life, weaving Truffaut, Visconti, Mann, Camus, Mahler and others together with a set of youthful characters who are very well composed by the writer and performed by the actors. Disc is released by DVD of the Month Club!

Exhilarating story centering around about a dozen student filmmakers and the tension that goes into their final few days of prep-work before shooting begins. A film for people who genuinely LOVE film.

"Who's Camus Anyway doesn't simply reflect our love for the movies, it responds to it as well." - Ed Gonzalez
