Öyle bir dublaj var ki insanı Türkçe öğrendiği güne lanet ettirir. Yönetmenin ilk dönemini hiç sevemedim, bu da bir istisna değil. Meditasyon etkisi veren kimi kadrajlar filmi katlanılır kılıyor. O dublajın kötülüğüne ek olarak konuştukları konuların hayatın akışına tersliği tüy dikiyor. Bunu köylüler felsefi konuşmaz diye düşündüğüm için de değil, diyalogların sadece yönetmenin iç sesini taşıyan bir enstrüman olarak kullanmasından ötürü

A beautiful feature debut from Nuri Bilge Ceylan. His background in photography is plain to see, as he makes the most visually out of very few and ordinary locations. But it's also carefully written. It is mild and sometimes sparse, but never insubstantial. The dialogue is naturalistic and unassuming but thought-provoking. Nice kickoff for one of the most impressive filmmakers alive

Nuri Bilge Ceylan'ın anne ve babası için çektiği ilk filmi. Siyah beyaz kamerasıyla, muhteşem çekimleriyle büyülüyor. Anton Çehov'un alıntılarıyla mest oluyoruz. Fotoğraf karesi güzelliğindeki çekimleri durdurup izleten film. Konu vasat, zaten yönetmen konuya dikkat etmek istememiş. Hayat ve ölüm arasında yaşanan ıssız yer. Filmin sonunda, hayat devam ediyor. Bu akşam hüzünlendim ben yine.

The photography is just perfect, full of grace. It allows Ceylan to immerse us, in merely 80 minutes, not only in this little town but in the life of this family, in the minds of its members, with their idiosyncrasies, their confidence, their doubts, their complex generational relationships without any form of judgment.The discussions around the fire have to be analyzed with regards to the normative texts read in school. This movie is as large as life itself.
