An assassin is poisoned, and has only one day to find her killer and exact revenge before she dies. The script is 100% formulaic mush that offers zero surprises or intrigue...every character, every act, every twist is exactly what you expect. However, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is surprisingly believable as a badass killer (though it's not clear if this is due to a great physical performance, effective editing or a combination of both), and the action is all pretty well shot and extremely gory.

My expectations for Kate were at a certain level but I was very happy while watching it, because it was really fun. It is a colorful, entertaining, charismatic, action-packed movie that is highly enjoyable to watch. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is superb as always, she is killing it in this movie.

I love Mary Kate and her performance is very good as always.The film wasn't bad at all,but it has a pretty generic plot that you've seen a dozen times before.And it would probably be more surprising by now if the usual suspect wasn't the traitor at the end.

A wanna-be John Wick film, that does a lot of things very well but ultimately falls short. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is very good, and the setting of a neon Japan is very cool, but at its core, it's a typical hitman-wants-out film that doesn't really deliver enough of what you want or something new.

I feel like Kate succeeded in what 'Gunpowder Milkshake' utterly failed at. The plot might not be the most original and you kind of see where it's going to go from the start, but it keeps you entertained with some cool choices of music, some surprisingly brutal violence and fights that are pretty damn well done. It's not above the average action flick, but I wasn't bored with it any point plus I love the Japan moods. Also, Woody Harrelson.

The lighting department being so good is the only reason my score isn't lower.

Not bad although the kid is pretty annoying and unlikable. Action scenes above average and MEW is bad ass in a lot of scenes.

You are not missing out on anything by not watching this. It's the typical revenge plot with a heroine that has nothing left to lose and with a predictable twist halfway... Performance is mediocre and the action is enjoyable however for a movie that focuses on the Yakuza and takes place in Japan I cannot help but be a little confused as to why the protagonist and antagonist has been cast caucasian.

Neon: The Action Movie.

Winstead and Harrelson are great in their roles, but the character of Ani is such an annoying collection of Millennial tropes, it's actually tough to get through her scenes. The dialogue, too, is pretty cliche and sub standard, but I will admit the story itself does carry some serious weight, moreso than a lot of action movies with a similar premise. The action is pretty good, but sometimes the editing makes it feel inconsistent and unbalanced. Fair action flick, but nothing amazing.

A violent revenge flick doesn’t need a lot to go on, but what it goes on has to be solid—and an inexplicable one-night stand with an inconsequential nobody wherein the protagonist is slipped lead isotopes is not that. Add in a predictable betrayal after the red-herring climax, an irritatingly foulmouthed protégé cliché, and not enough interesting combats, and you’ve got a disappointingly boring film.

Watching this reminded me what a masterpiece Kill Bill is. At least compared to this crap.

Not bad action flick with a female assassin. The compare her with a terminator. In the end I liked she was not.

It's just an average movie with above average action scenes.

Though I enjoyed watching Mary Elizabeth Winstead kick ass in in a cool Japanese setting, this movie doesn't really offer anything that hasn't been done better elsewhere. Winstead is giving it her all and looking great while doing so, but the story just have enough meat to hold steady. I found the other lead character to be annoying and not entirely likable, and most of her dialogue was fairly cringey. Some of the fight scenes were cool, but this ain't it chief. I give 5 annoying kids out of 10.

It is not totally bad, it is "just" too long and full of cliché and it stoles different pieces from different movies. It reminds me Luc Besson's Nikita, the sound/music reminds me Blade Runner, the escape scene with neon shining car reminds me Tron and all that is placed in Japan... And the little girl is annoying.

A little generic and the idea of a hit man or other some such badass who needs to get revenge on a time limit has been done about a dozen times before. Still, this is a competent production and an easy watch.

Plot twist was way too predictable but I love the visuals. And holy cow Mewins was so badass; how does she do that every singe time? Also; happy birthday Mewins.

Far from reinvents the genre, but a surprisingly believable Winstead as an assassin, a neon lit Tokyo and decent action scenes make this a enjoyable way to pass the time.

The action was dope, but the kid side story and an action film turning into a sob story was unpleasant.

Couldn't you put even the tiniest amount of effort into the title? Is that too much to ask? The "twist" could not possibly be more obvious; I would be shocked if even a single person didn't see it coming from the opening scene. Winstead can clearly handle a John Wick-esque action vehicle, but this ain't it.

While the movie is an entertaining action vehicle on its own, it has too many problems and is overall too generic to actually stand out. Mary Elizabeth Windstead, however, carries her weight as an action lead and therefore carries the entire movie.

Fight choreography is pretty good and you gotta love Winstead's relentless killing machine who is about to melt down in this neon-lit, nighty, bloody Japan, but it's just too bad everything seems so predictable in the second half -- an assassin poisoned with less than a day to live and who will shoot her way up to yakuza boss she thinks is responsible for that.

Well, it's a netflix movie so of course there has to be plot twist so minute 5 and you know who the 'surprise' bad guy will be. Some decent action, Winstead just fits perfectly. But this does not have much else to offer.

Good action movie albeit a bit too long.

This film seem to borrow ideas and plot points from other movies about assassins. However Mary Elizabeth Winstead does a great job in this film, her performance makes this movie worth watching. Overall I would recommend this film.

Gratuitously violent with a twist you can see coming from miles away.

This action movie has a few great moments. It has a few not so great ones too. The story was strained, shredded and pasted back together. Most of the action was quite satisfying. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was awesome as the highly unlikely super assassin. Worthwhile and entertaining.

Courtney Barnett, with extreme radiation sickness, doing ultra-violent, over-the-top kung fu. Haha. It's so fucking stupid. The whole film is a constant, absurd gun battle. I don't understand why such a thing is entertaining. It's cliche and boring. There's some interesting cinematography here, but that's really all this film has to offer.

We're getting swamped in female John Wicks lately, but even with a predictable plot, this one feels like it has something some others don't. Possibly, that thing is trying to have its cake and eat it too in terms of westerners playing with Japanese culture. But a few of the action scenes are above-average, Winstead is great as always, and the story has stakes that some of its ilk don't.

I like the idea of it, Winstead is always good value and the cinematography is nice too. It doesn't quite hang together, which is a shame but it's a decent way to spend some time.

As far as fight choreography and directing action sequences is considered, KATE is actually very well done. Not very many films know how to shoot and edit action scenes like this film, so pretty much any time an action sequence occurs, I was all in - but I didn't care so much about the plot of film past the gimmick of...I have 24 hours to settle a score...but any time it tries to branch out the characters or story, that's when I sort of dipped out. Not a terrible film, but I've seen better.
