Recommended, especially for the riveting performance by Damian Lewis playing a schizophrenic man looking for his lost daughter. And Abigail Breslin of Little Miss Sunshine fame is perfect in a small but important role. The less you know about the movie before watching it the better, but there was one flaw in the plot which I couldn't overlook.

This could only grow with repeated watches. I just don't know if I could summon the will for another go at this wretchedly depressing experience.

Intense drama, centred on a masterful, brave performance by Lewis. Initially (deliberately) off-putting, the character deepens and becomes more endearing through his relationship with the mother-daughter team of Ryan and Breslin. Manages to create much suspense from the somewhat reckless behaviour of both adults, coupled with Breslin's knowing, mature performance as the trusting daughter. Somewhat hurt by an abrupt ending, but certainly gives the viewer much to ponder.

Using a handheld camera and found locations, Kerrigan shoots in a style reminiscent of the Dogme 95 filmmakers or the Dardennes, but with an electric energy all his own. This lends a disturbing immediacy to Keane’s depiction of one man’s Sisyphean struggle to avoid falling apart one desperate minute at a time.

not what I would call a very entertaining movie, however, Lewis's performance is remarkable and there is no denying Breslin's charm........

Intense and unsettling, with a compelling performance from Lewis who is onscreen in close-up for almost the entire film. The reluctance to answer questions creates a lot of tension in the uncertainty about who we can trust. It somehow failed to really speak to me but I suspect I'll be thinking about this one.

captivating and somewhat circular story of a father with mental illness due to the presumed abduction of his daughter. there's no lead into the main story - we're dropped right into his erratic mumblings and intense panic attacks. i found the first third or so the most interesting, but the entire film is carried by a phenomenal performance by damian.

The film means to be a shakingly sensory experience, and is.

This was purely a character study and really difficult to watch (boring). I preferred "Clean, Shaven", a similar movie from 1993 starring indie actor Peter Greene of The Mask and Pulp Fiction fame. -----And, wow! Wouldn't you know it. I just eye em dee bee'd it and it just so happens to be another Lodge Kerrigan movie.

Effective personal drama/tragedy movie, almost a little too hard to watch at times. Damian Lewis gives an incredibly intense performance, teetering on the edge of destruction, and it's quite a relief when some "regular" characters pop up to anchor the story. From here on his quest remains engrossing, and the mysterious past thread is revealed bit-by-bit towards the ending, which feels right. In fact I could have ranked this higher if it wasn't such an uneasy watch for large parts. Worth seeing.

Good little movie, very unsettling as Keane seems capable of anything at any time. I'm curious about how realistic his mental disorder is, because he slips in and out of paranoid schizophrenic episodes very suddenly. My rating really depends on that.
