I'm not sure this film knows what it wants to be. I get the dark comedic side of the whole thing, but I was lost by what seemed was the serious point it was trying to make about God's grace. The performances were fun, and Atkinson in particular did a nice job, but I just feel like this is one of those admirable failures, a film you'd like to succeed, but doesn't have a consistent tone to carry throughout the film.

Not nearly as awful as I expected. It's been forced upon me a couple of times now, and it's more than held my attention, and occasionaly brought a smile with its odd flash of dark humour.

Keeping Mum is a hilarious and quirky comedy with a lot of heart. The entire cast gives wonderful performances, especially those that aren't usually comedic actors, such as Patrick Swayze, and above all, Maggie Smith. Really good!

Had great potential, and was certainly funny at times, but seemed lacking in depth and cohesion.

This movie actually manages to just dribble away into nothing; like it was meant to be another hour longer but they ran out of money and needed to wrap it up quickly. A good cast counts for something, though.

Wonderfully dark, and Maggie Smith is a delight. However, some of the other performances let this film down

Just doesn't do enough. Its a dark british comedy that isn't in particular that funny or engaging. Maggie Smith and Rowan Atkinson are the strongest performers but I think what ruined it for me was Patrick Swayze literally ruining every scene he was in.

Pretty cute, slight but interesting greyish comedy.

Slight, but entertaining; a good cast and wry flashes of dark humour elevate this well above mediocrity

The story is surprisingly light considering the subject matter. Rowan Atkinson is the lovable preacher, and his bored wife is looking to escape. The daughter is out of control. Then comes the crazy old housekeeper who transforms their lives for the better, but unfortunately by means of murder. Despite the gruesome acts, the story on the surface looks like all is innocent and sweet. Plot holes galore, but silly fun, if you can overlook the horrific realities. Great last scene laugh.
