Khumba

Good quality 3D animation with a terribly unoriginal script... Lion King meets Happy Feet

The animation and music are good, but Khumba is let down by its derivative plot, benign dialogue and miscast voice actors. While the film is mostly innocuous (barring one spread eagle joke), it struggles to hold attention throughout its runtime.

The animation and modeling are very strong but the voices are miscast and the script is weak. A better writer would have made this something really special. As it is, it's passable.

Surprisingly deft animation, particularly in terms of colouring - the desert landscapes are vivid. The characters are strong too, both in terms of looks and in behaviour. The story's nothing new - it's basically a Lion King remix - but it's still an enjoyable time, thankfully only rarely dragged down by the lame humour and musical interludes of the sub-Pixar US studios.
