All the ingredients are there (that classic Shaw cast, colorful and doomed characters, signature weapons and moves) but it's all a bit more goofy and less spectacular than usual thanks to the not quite thrilling choreography. Luckily you never have to wait long for the next fight or amusing thing to happen, so it's still entertaining in its own way. But it almost felt like more of a kids' movie, if it wasn't for all the gory deaths and rampant boozing.

With its brilliant costumes and hilarious death scenes, this Shaw Brothers classic really wears its ridiculousness on its sleeve. The fights come relentlessly, and the occasionally over-rehearsed choreography doesn't markedly diminish the wonderful spectacle of it all. All five of the Venom Mob impress, and Philip Kwok's booze-guzzling Tai Hao gets to deliver one of the best final lines ever.

As others have noted the fights were overly choreographed and the story left a lot to be desired. The skills on display and the over the top deaths were entertaining and the hinted at romance between the sheriff and the Heroine was a nice touch that should have played a bit of a larger role at the end. The late Seventies/ early Eighties were not the best time period for the Shaw Brothers.

I should be a sucker for this much action, but a large portion of it is over-choreographed and the story is so bonkers that something totally new is happening every 90 seconds with characters popping in and out including doing so mid-fights. The spear fight lives up to its hype and the finale was great as well. Just a little too madcap and the fighting a little too dance routine for me to call this movie a classic.

There's a point where the "I punch, then you punch" thing gets a little too noticeable. It's got all of the Venoms, so I feel right at home, but they were really struggling for a reason why there should be fights this time. The fabulous costumes were not in agreement with the dryness of the situations.

The entire main cast of 5 Deadly Venoms return in this film. It boasts great choreography but a silly screenplay and some of the most fake-looking sets and makeup I've ever seen.

Some great fights including a 4-minute beauty between Silver Spear (Meng) and Short Axe (Sheng). Also features the best last line in kung fu cinema.
