Kika, a young cosmetologist, is called to the mansion of Nicolas, an American writer to make-up the corpse of his stepson, Ramon. Ramon, who is not dead, is revived by Kika's attentions and she then moves in with him. They might live happily ever after but first they have to cope with Kika's affair with Nicolas, the suspicious death of Ramon's mother and the intrusive gaze of tabloid-TV star and Ramon's ex-psychologist Andrea Scarface. Worst Almodóvar I've seen, but with some interesting points. I appreciate the gutter press critic, extreme and well done, and the incredible risk made in that unusual rape scene (more than like it, I mean appreciate the risk). But well, the male actors in this one are horrible, the foreign one is dubbed by a perfect Spanish talker (but they keep dialogue references to his horrible Spanish), characters are just weird, not deep like previous ones, and it's the least attractive Almodóvar's.

"Kika" is Almodovar's snappiest satire. It's difficult to write something about that movie without spoilering the plot. A must see for fans of Pedro Almodovar and highly recommendable to all those who got nothing to do with limits and rules, cause they got broken in Kika a hundret times!A Diabolic & naughty Comedy Drama.

Pretty unpleasant, humorless "black comedy" that plays an extended rape scene for a laugh. It's just weird and tedious and is kind of like Almodovar by way of the bad side of von Trier.

Dark Almodovar comedy that really pushes the boundaries of acceptability, which I suppose is its project. Quite a lot to it, but not sure how much I liked it. Don't think he likes women very much.

Another middling, frustrating Almodovar effort which has its share of amusing, audacious moments (the rape scene is hilarious even while horrifying) but Almodovar's juvenile sense of humour remains a deadly blow to the film's success; the abrasive characters are grotesque, irritating caricatures so that when the dramatic/melodaramatic elements kick into gear, it becomes impossible to really care about what is happening on screen, despite the vibrant performances (Abril is a standout).

A chic and glossy look at voyeurism, a sort of Spanish Peeping Tom that is also partly a satire on television's habit of serving up "reality" as entertainment, but is mainly a recycling of the themes of Almodovar's previous movies. The director's shock tactics are beginning to lose their impact, especially when combined with an ill-constructed narrative.

Quite imaginative but kind of annoying sometimes.

This was my second movie from Almodovar and surprised me more than I spect. Juana & Kika's and acting are so good and fun in most of time, I really enjoyed them, but I can't say the same about the male acting, they were so boring. What I loved was the way that the filmmaker builded all the scenaries, using lots of mirrors and borders, exploring geometry from 90's decoration, since the first to last scene. It's a very interesting film for who likes simetric photography rsrs. I recommend.

Weakest Almodóvar (so far) because it is the most incoherent in plot and uneven in tone. All his films are full of plot, but others still manage to flow natural plus they do have emotional and thematic depths. Contrary to this one they also are delicate balance acts of tones and genres. Still there is enough of his typical wit and style to keep this still worth a watch for fans. Tho the comedy of the rape scene did work for me, I can understand others being offended by playing it for laughs.

Sıradışı karakterlerine, absürd olaylarına, tasarım kostümlerine rağmen zoraki ve tatsız bir film. Kika karakterini de hiiiç sevmedim bu arada.

Not a top tier Almodóvar, for sure, but it has its moments as a wild sex comedy -- specially in the batshit crazy second half -- and the cast is just wildly entertaining. Gotta love Andrea Caracortada's unique, performative approach to investigative journalism.
