So there's a HK cop who is after the movie's villain who needs to kidnap his brother and one of the henchmen to make that happen is the cop's nephew who is also an undercover cop / a martial arts expert who unknowingly has something that a Thai prison guard / martial arts expert needs to save his daughter but whose boss the warden is in league with the villain and also is a martial arts expert. Ridiculous, but the fast-moving soap opera plot and enjoyable fights made for an entertaining watch.

The best way to watch Saat Po Long 2 / whatever you want to call it, is to skip straight to the fight scenes. Seriously - the plot is so hackneyed, and the combat so amazing, you should just do it. Tony Jaa has long been a pioneer, and now, alongside Jing Wu and Jin Zhang, has created a martial arts stunner many will try and fail to emulate. The balance between originality, hard hits, technique and believability in the fights is the result of a perfect marriage between HK and Thai action styles.

Thoroughly entertaining with enough set up to make you care about the characters.

Overall a fun ride, but it was dragged down a bit by trying to do too much. It's an action movie, for crying out loud; what's with the convoluted plot and non-linear story-telling? The action was entertaining, despite the choppy camera-work, which always bugs me. The actors are competent martial artists, no need to disguise it like that. I'm fully on board with multi-style martial arts butt-kicking to classical music, though.

This gritty martial arts, cop flick is quite enjoyable if you can swallow the astonishing coincidence at the center of the plot. It has a couple of bravura action sequences ... a prison riot that centers on Jing trying to make a phone call and the final three-way fight between Jing, Jaa and Zhang Jin that ends with a truly astonishing sequence. It's an in-name-only sequel to "Kill Zone", the only connection being Jing and Simon Yam returning.

Tried and true and cliched plot and characters, but gosh am i as an action junkie really gonna pick apart an hk action flick for that? The action is a bit more styled and fantastical than i expected, but still has plenty of hard hitting thrills. It earns more points from wild camerawork: lots of continuous takes, long shots, sweeping pans, giving you the feel of an entire environment filled with violence.

Better than I thought. Fun to watch as long as it's not taken seriously.

This really has nothing to do with the first film and it's nowhere near as good or well made. The story isn't as tightly made and the action sequences aren't as intense but it's still a surprisingly good film. There were some strange music choices during some scenes and the interconnection between the character were pretty staged and convoluted. Also all the good guys could take enormous amounts of punishment with little lasting effect. That being said I must say the I was quite happy with the a

Having never seen the first (which didn't matter to me as this is a good stand alone film). The filming is really good and the martial arts fight scenes are epic, what really keeps it going is there is a good story at the core of the movie.

Right up there with The Raid with intense fights, great camera work, and hyper dramatic story.

While nailing the choreography, SPL 2 maintains the current trend of overly convoluted plots and slow pacing of Hong Kong action dramas.

Didn't now The Raid 2 could be beaten so early and easily by this larger-than-life actioner.

The plot gets both very ridiculous and extremely and unironically sincere while the action is really really quite good.

An unusually detailed and decent drama in a mainstream martial arts action movie. Too many coincidences in the plot under the guise of "God won't toy with us" is unsatisfactory. Furthermore, a very cliched and unrealistic ending takes shine off the brilliance in the former parts and serves an unexpected dent to the movie.

I kinda like the concept of having several protagonists whose goals are at odds with one another. Unfortunately SPL2 doesn't really make that work, with the characters being so generic, and the plot in general a typical bullshit Hong Kong action-melodrama. Action scenes are fairly stylish and well choreographed, but not very realistic either.

Hong Kong style action which glows sporadically, but narratively it could have been done a lot better. Got some cool action, but the characters never gained much identity for me. The Downs dude was easily my favorite....
