Killer Nun

Don't get too excited by the title - this is a slow, awkward, boring movie that doesn't even deliver on the expected nunsploitation sleaze. Lots of bad acting and a terrible swerve ending. No matter what you expect from these kinds of movies, you'll be disappointed. No, I won't absolve you, movie. Off to hell with you.

While I was watching this I became acutely aware that I had only seen one of the 2019 Best Film Oscar nominees. Much slower and duller and less sleazy than I'd expected/hoped. It wasn't terrible, well it was, but I just wasn't interested at all. I need to see Vice...

Doesn't live up to its promise of nunsploitation. The points I give it for style might not even be their intention and may just be my appreciation of the '70s aesthetic. Anita Ekberg and Paola Morra look good, but that's about it. It's more of a psychological thriller that doesn't take the time to get you invested in the characters, so the scares don't land. Fav scene: Ekberg going to the bar to seduce a guy and we're treated to some local flavor shots of her walking down the street.

Not nearly as lurid as it wants you to think it is, Killer Nun is a glacially paced drama about a drugged out Nun who works in a hospital. Ekberg is decent in the lead role, but there's not nearly enough sleaze to make the boring story worthwhile.

Druggie nun kills some people. Viewer contemplates taking drugs and killing people after sitting through it. Not enough tits.

I'm not sure but I think this wants to be some sort of bizarre nunsploitation/giallo hybrid. All I know is that it's very slow and weird and well-directed and nowhere near as sleazy as its title would suggest. Certainly demented enough to be worth a view (especially to see Ekberg's needlessly impassioned performance), but if you're expecting wall-to-wall lesbian nunsex broken up by gory set pieces, this will probably disappoint.

Anita is a hospital nun with a whole wardrobe of bad habits. "Based", according to the opening credits, "on actual events in a Central European country not many years ago," this strives for realism without neglecting the promised dosages of sleaze and gore. Anita is convincingly overwrought and receives solid support from an established Euro cast, along with former Warhol superstar Dallesandro as a young doc.

It has it's moments but I found this to be mostly boring.
