A large disapointment. Unlike the LOTR trilogy, this film wasn't fun or exciting. I felt bored, and was wishing for it to end. The action sequenes went on for far too long, and were ridiculous.

Jackson's mammoth retelling uses its extra time remarkably well, especially in fleshing out Darrow's poignant, heart rending connection to the beast (well played by Serkis) and telling his tale on a grand, at times overwhelming scale. Beautiful evocation of 30s New York is a highlight; while some judicious trimming may have helped (especially with the crew on the island), this emerges as a formidable achievement, even managing to out-Spielberg in some of its terrific carnage scenes.

King Kong is sort of a mixed bag. It has character depth that adds another dimension to the story, but it still could've been substantially shorter. The action sequences are thrilling, but overblown at times as well. The effects are wonderful, but overambition leads to some awkward looking sequences. Overall? The good, to me, far outweighs the bad. It's a great experience, and its best sequences rank among my favorite in any popcorn movie. Also, having a crush on Naomi Watts helps (she's great).

This monster of a remake has one big problem. It's too darn long. I would say that a good 45-60 minutes could have been cut out, and it would have made it better. There are a lot of unnecessary plot points that could be left out. Overall, the movie will captivate and entertain. It looks beautiful, and the scenes with Ann and Kong interacting are positively delightful. Meh!

Disappointing as all hell. The action sequences are tedious and sport some very intrusive CGI, some characters are underdeveloped while others are overdeveloped, most of the acting is underwhelming (notably excepting Naomi Watts), it's far too long, and so on. Jackson does bring the time period to life convincingly and Kong himself looks spectacular, but it's not enough to save this mess.

An overall disappointment, although I really never had my hopes up in the first place. It's too damn long. Everything takes about 40% to longer to happen than it does in the original. The story just isn't enough to sustain a 3-hour film. The various homages to the original film are clever, the acting is good, and the effects are convincing. Unfortunately, it all adds up to something a little bit dull.

"It was beauty killed the beast": A stupid line that botches the promising thematic arc. This character was the one who dragged Kong from home to hellhole for a life of humiliation all for his own gain but sure, let him end the film with this bullshit poetic proclamation that places blame on the fucking sunset and the woman who literally just tried to save Kong's life. It's a great film otherwise: the action-adventure is truly breathtaking in spite of dated CGI and cringe-y native portrayals.

Story's fine. They make the necessary updates and keep the cgi nonsense grounded in giant creature reality. Direction is solid. Peter Jackson knows an epic when he sees one. BUT, the actors that were miscast, specifically, every last one of them, turn this into a near debacle. Watts is the closest but it's still a swing and a miss. Black, Brody and Hanks are just so out of place. Plus what's with pre-50's era Adrian Brody flicks? It makes sense if we admit he sucks in these last two decades.

Some great action sequences that don't really make sense from a plot perspective. I love any film where scores of people die but no one gives a shit as long as you can rescue the girl. Course, Naomi Watts is worth saving, and I'd let people die to fuck her. Jack Black seems out-of-place. For an adventure film, it's good to flip on and half-pay attention to, so it fills a niche.

Too long. I appreciate the fact that the original King Kong is such an inspiration to Jackson, but he still needed to trim this film up a bit. I thought the premise was solid, as a remake it made it something a little different without wrecking the original's ideas. Too bad some terrible bits (Watts and Ape scenes becoming weirdly flirtatious, too many scenes on the island, Black's overacting) brought down the film as a whole. Props to Andy Serkis who motion captured Kong perfectly.

It's good to see Jack Black in something a little less... Dumb. Most of the special effects are really good, and there's one particular scene with a lot of giant insects that I still find hard to watch. It almost seems out of place in the rest of the movie. Of course it's nowhere near as groundbreaking as the original, but remakes of anything generally aren't.

The Kong films show a sharp decline, this one a farther step down from the last than the last was down from the first. Three hours are not automatically "better" than one and three-quarters or two and one-quarter. Even the supposed progress in special effects -- from stop-motion models to computer animation -- is largely illusory. The former falsity of stiffness and creakiness has simply been replaced by the falsity of fluidness and facileness.

This could have been so much better. As is, it lacks the expected intensity and suspense given the monsters involved and crazy action on screen. And utilizing fast-cut CGI for the action sequences does not do it any favors. Still, it's an enjoyable movie that really delivers the sense you're on a grand adventure. I enjoyed it. Peter Jackson wanted to do a remake of King Kong since he saw the original 1933 King Kong movie as a kid - he loved this movie so much it became his inspiration to be a director - and after his Lord Of The Rings triumph he had the freedom and money to finally fulfill his dream. And his love of the material shows - KING KONG is a CGI-action-romance extravaganza with a heart.

Doesn't have much magic or excitement to it, outside of a few scenes. Jackson does a competent job of directing, but I didn't see much that he added to the original idea, aside from better special effects and sets. However, Naomi Watts does an excellent job of performing opposite a CGI creature, and the moments of just her and Kong are rather touching. Jack Black even does alright, however, his delivery of the final line was laugh-out-loud, not in a good way. Overall, not bad.

It looks like a big budget TV mini-series, not more, not less. That is, it's all about quantity. It takes a story everyone knows and inflates it to 3 long, absolutely unjustified hours. The plot is monotonous and overloaded with unnecessary scenes, the acting is corny, the editing exasperating. There is absolutely nothing good about it, but there is A LOT of it. After the smash success of the "Lord of the Rings" saga, director Peter Jackson attempted an even more epic task in remaking the iconic classic "King Kong"(1933). To the director's credit, unlike the 70's remake Jackson never shied away from trying to recapture if not top the spectacle of the original. However an admitted super fan of the original, Jackson may have ultimately hurt the movie with his passion. The film ends up as a 3 hour long love letter to Kong bloated with good intentions.
