Really quite poor, but I watched it at the time because it had Linda Hamilton and I liked her boobs in Terminator. I saw it on TV and assumed it was made for TV, it was about that quality.

Kong has a heart transplant, wakes up from a coma, meets Lady Kong, falls in love, has a baby, then dies. I swear this is a monster film and not a romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan and Bill Pullman...

Wow, I didn't know movies without Adam Sandler could be this bad.

What’s wrong w/ this? It’s not just predictable (will the serious scientist hook up w/ the unorthodox action guy? Does Kong die in the middle of the film?), but it’s also silly (the ape romance). What really kills this though is there’s no reason to care. What’s at stake? The romantic futures of 2 giant and mostly very peaceful apes. Surprisingly the technical efx & look of the film aren’t as bad as you’d expect - as long as you’re judging by the standards of its 1976 predecessor

Some nice monster effects but not much else. The film somehow doesn't play it straight enough or campy enough, and never gets full mileage out of its absurd storyline.

Mediocre. Has some bits that are entertaining because of how dumb or weird they are.

Any comparisons with the original _King Kong_ would leave this barely breathing, but our celebrity apes, alternately formidable and poignant, supply some fun, far outshining Kerwin/Hamilton's parallel romance, and the King kicks enough homo-sap butt to keep fans glued to their seats.

Incredibly inept sequel to the '76 Kong. Cut-rate effects and cloying attempts at sentimentality dominate this needless production, whose greatest sin among many is utterly wasting the lovely and talented Hamilton -- Kong doesn't even get to pick her up! Script echoes of earlier Kong movies, _Mighty Joe Young_, _Konga_, and _Escape from the Planet of the Apes_ (from which this movie's ending was stolen) do little to help.

This cheap cash grab sequel is ridiculous schlock. King Kong gets a robot heart and a girlfriend in this romantic action comedy B-movie. The high quality special effects the series is famously known for are non-existent in this movie. Add on top of all that a love story between knock-off Indiana Jones and Dr. Sarah Conner, and you get a recipe for some so-bad-it's-good monster movie fun.

Far from horrible but undoubtedly a disappointment after the enjoyable 1976 film, "King Kong Lives" has no personality of its own and is brought down by a by-the-numbers script full of plot holes, inconsistencies and odd choices (heart transplant and pregnancy anyone?). Leads Brian Kerwin and Linda Hamilton commit to their roles yet are let down by them, and the blue screen sequences obviously haven't aged well, nevertheless there is some really good work on the practical effects on display.
