Everything returns to normal after Chernobyl. That is, everything but art. Most of the great works are lost, and it is up to people like William Shakespeare Junior the Fifth to restore the lost artwork of the human race. (imdb)

My new favorite Godard film, and possibly the one i have seen which skews the closest to being a pure philosophical/poetic essay on the nature of the cinematic medium itself, and even the nature of images and words. I sort of hate to admit the possibility that it may be due to the film being in English that i was able to appreciate these meditations on a purely visceral sonic level that simply is not possible when reading subtitles (an unfortunate bias), yet it's a favorable effect all the same.

On paper, it's an absolute disaster of a movie. In execution, it still kind of is a disaster, but the film is so bizarre and plainly entertaining while also being incredibly dense and meaningful, so it's really Godard at his best. Proof that there's always a method to Godard's madness, and truly just a stunning film. "I think the mafia is the only way to do King Lear."

DVDRip no MakingOff.
