Once, long ago, there was a time when the Farrelly brothers created quality comedy...okay, they created comedy...okay, they made movies...kind of...but at least quality actors were still accepting the roles. This is an example of one of those films. Quaid, Harrelson, and Murray keep this hole-ridden ship afloat by furiously working the buckets for 90+ minutes. Was it amusing? Sure. Could it have been better? Definitely. Do I recommend it? I've run out of space in this review to answer that...

Dumb and Dumber again, doesn't quite re-bottle the lightning. The lovable losers aren't as lovable, their chemistry feels less natural. Skidmark is certainly no Seabass. But Bill Murray is worth watching every second he's onscreen, and of course the hairpieces have a place in movie history. But how high can I really rate a movie whose top selling points include the hairpieces?

Balances its jokes and subplots and underdog sports story pretty amusingly and is an easy watch. It’s all hampered by Randy Quaid though, who I think is one of the most unfunny and physically repulsive people to ever achieve anything resembling leading man status.

This movie has everything: amish people, one handed bowlers, nice titties, Bill Murray, Jonathan Richman (yes, THE Jonathan Richman) and Woody Harrelson rocking the best/worst hairdo ever.

Forgot to rank this forever ago. It's not the most memorable comedy at all, but there are still a lot of quotable lines and hilarious scenes and the two leads work together pretty well. Some of it was silly and that rubbed off on me the wrong way for some reason. It's not terrible though.

Was funnier in the 90's, but it remains one of the better Farrely films. It is too long and the musical montages are overkill, but Harrelson is great as a life long loser, and Quaid matches him as a dim witted amish man. Much attention is rightly given to Murray, who plays a slimey prick incredibly well, and it is one of the better films about bowling.

This farce has a lot of big laughs. {I'm glad the Amish don't go to movies!} Quaid and Harrelson both deliver good portrayals of zany characters. It was too predictible and several of the gags seemed recycled from yesteryear.

Mistakes - 1) Ishmael's chest tattoo is visible before he gets it. 2) During the Reno tournament, there are several instances where you can see the scoreboard above the lanes. Each time, the scoreboard has multiple names under each of the lane headings despite the fact that only one bowler is on each lane. 3) In Reno tournament Big Ern crosses foul line and throws a strike. In tournament play that would count as a zero and the pins would be reset.

The comedy in this movie is rather predictable but somewhat funny, it isn't really a memorable movie, and to create a comedy movie on the sport of bowling is also rather bizzare. However Murray's performance in this movie is just great.

I laughed quite a lot while watching this so it was clearly amusing for me. While Vanessa Angel is not entirely convincing as the 'criminal hottie turned good', it is the case that Harrelson, Murray and Quaid are entirely convincing as bowling degenerates.

For a comedy it's rather devoid of laughs, the plot is rather disjointed, but somewhere between the last half and last third of the film it finally coalesces into a good movie. The whole thing is easy to watch and the characters thanks in part to Harrelson's, Quaid's, and Murray's performances all have a certain charm to them. You shouldn't make a point of going out of your way to watch this, but if you catch it on tv you'll most likely be pleasantly surprised.

Generally amusing comedy is scattershot and inconsistent, but the bits that land score beautifully - Harrelson and Quaid are a fun enough team to paper over some rocky transitions from AIRPLANE-style spoofing to more "realistic" observational based comedy. Helped (in some ways hindered) by Murray firing on all hilarious cylinders - he's sorely missed in the mid-section, while swooping back at the finale to steal the show, leaving you wishing the movie proper was based around him!

Rowdy comedy from the 90s when the Farrellys were peaking and everybody liked what they did. Not that original plot-wise, but Harrelson is a great comic actor more than capable of working in this silly genre, Quaid can play the idiot, and Bill Murray enjoys a nice cameo. I don't really care for bowling, but some of the prosthetic hand jokes, and fun poked at the Amish, had me chuckling. Distinctive if not truly memorable middle-of-the-road fun tv comedy fare.

A decent comedy but a bizarre mashup of plots. One takes a naive Amish man on a journey of self discovery, where he learns nothing but teaches many along the way - with a few gags about horse semen for good measure. The other takes a look at a deadly serious (therefore, silly) world of professional bowling. It gets by on the performances of Quaid, Harrelson and Murray, mostly, and unfortunately there's some material in poor taste - sexism, largely. Worth keeping on the TV, though.

A crackingly funny and immensely underrated flick about these two 40 year old losers trying to bowl for a winner-takes-it-all tournament. It's another examination of silly and childish grown-up guys by the Farrellys, about a generation that has developed an incredible sense of failure because they simply couldn't make their fathers proud in the past. They keep trying -- and getting munsoned all the time. Eventually, these two discover thay they have to go on with their lives.
