This one's hard to rate because I worked on the project (and actually chatted with one of the creators today before going out to eat a gourmet hamburger wrapped in caul fat, only to find the restaurant full, and after a 20 minute walk, ended up in a shady Chinese dive that served some frighteningly mediocre egg drop soup...but that's another story...albeit one more coherent and better voice-acted than Kingsglaive), so I'll let my score (and the preceding parenthetical remark) do the talking.

Bombastic nonsense with slick visuals. The flat US voice acting, non-characters and embarrassing dialogue kill any sense of fun soon enough. You're just watching scenes, not a story. An added insult is the shameful sidelining of the only female character, who's not allowed to have any agency at all. The movie seems to work towards a reversal where she'll finally embrace a power to save the day but the Poochie-protagonist goes AW HELLS NAW and takes it for himself like a selfish prick. Classy!

As usual with any Final Fantasy related film, it's style over substance. The fights look amazing, the creature designs and world are breathtaking, but the plot and characters are so bland. I played and beat the game (which I loved) before seeing this, so there were a few things I enjoyed seeing and noted as relevant, but mostly this comes across as shallow and unnecessary. Someone noted that the animation was done before the dub, and that is a bit distracting too. So much potential unrealized.

Dumb CGI anime flick with a convoluted, poorly told plot, cookie-cutter, undeveloped characters, laughable acting and dialogue and ridiculously over the top action. So it's pretty much what you'd expect from the masters of "style over substance" themselves, Square Enix. Except the animation - usually their biggest strength - also sucked, especially the lip syncing. Recommended only for those already invested in FF15's storyline, and even then you should keep your expectations as low as possible.

Full disclosure, I'm a fan of CG-intensive video games, and the cut-scene style Kingsglaive employs was right up my alley. Unfortunately, despite being wonderfully animated, this film doesn't have the narrative strength or emotional depth to back it up. There is a plot, and it is vaguely interesting, but the scenes aren't fluid and characters aren't established well enough. There's also an issue with the dub, where the animation came before the script, meaning the voice acting is sub-par,

Beautifully realized nonsense. The facial animations in particular seemed like a big step up from the likes of Spirits Within, but apart from its technical prowess this is an embarrassingly dumb tale and doesn't bode well for the game (FFVI still rules!!!).

Despite very impressive animation (there's still some uncanny valley with the human characters, particularly their mouths when talking, but many of the settings/backgrounds look truly photorealistic), it never escapes feeling like a really long above average video game cutscene.

Pretty graphics, but if the story is barely comprehensible to someone who played through the game first, what hope is there for humanity at large?

Visually impressive but the story is pretty dull and the voice acting is even more so. This is my least favorite of the 3 Final Fantasy films.

Tam anlamıyla başyapıt. Görsel olarak, tempo olarak, konu olarak herşeyiyle kusursuz denecek kadar iyi. Oyun için iyi bir tanıtım olmuş.

All looks and no substance, no story, no plot, no fluidity. It's like they took cut scenes from the game and only used half of them and tried to make something of it.

I know it's based on a computer game, but there is no reason to make a feature movie look like one. It's like an endless intro story you just want to end to get on with the game! And because of the video game graphic gimmick I felt totally disconnected from this. There is something about the way Asian production companies use CGI graphics which is not beneficiary to.... any movie! On top of that, of the video game movies this year I easily enjoyed Warcraft (2016) more.

Whilst it isn't neccessary my preferred genre or story, Kingsglaive is an engrossing film, and a wonderful companion to FFXV. The anime Brotherhood is kind of garbage.
