A raucous deconstruction of a Hollywood sub-genre that director Shane Black practically invented. The sardonic, pitch-black comedy is laser-focused on its tragically small audience, but nearly anyone can appreciate the goofy, endless endearing Robert Downey Jr. at work.

Solid movie. Robert Downey Jr. is awesome in everything. This movie was sort of like a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode: Every single person has the exact same sense of humor, sarcasm, and idiosyncrasies... so it got a little tiring after (random side character #7) starts picking apart (random side character #6)'s wording (just like the main characters have been doing to each other). It's like all the actors were 1 character: the writers. Oh, and the whole narration seemed a little forced.

Comic film-noir at it's best! Robert Downey, Jr and Val Kilmer are hilarious in this Shane Black dark comedy. The dialogue alone is priceless. If you like dark comedy, this is a must see!

The absurd adventures of a petty criminal, turned potential movie star, turned detective. The dialog is rapier, the plot is twisty, the cinematography is lovely, and the music is steller. A great movie, but watch carefully; every scene counts.

Tons o' fun! Oh and that girl sure was hot. I enjoyed every moment.

It's hard to express just how well this movie works. How well it's constructed. How great the script is. How amazingly funny it is. Sure, it veers close to going off the rails at times, but in the exact right way. All of the actors in this are firing at all cylinders, and all told it's amazingly smart, if not incredibly silly at times.

Kilmer might be the coolest gay private detective since...well fuck it, how many other gay detectives can there be but he's brilliant in this. Props to Robert Downey Jr. for still being alive too.

I'm not big on mystery plots, but this was entertaining. Downey is very Downey. Kilmer is a larf. Also, this is NOT a Christmas movie. There's the occasional reference to that time of year, but it's easily forgotten and certainly has no bearing on the plot. Will you lot stop arguing about Die Hard? There are far more offensive claims afoot.

The sense of humor tickles at times, made me laugh out loud at times. But the story was a bit too much for me to wrap my head over I guess - picked the wrong time to watch it I guess.

A wonderfully delightful action comedy with a bigger emphasis on the comedy. Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer both handle their roles perfectly. The only issue that takes away from this movie for me is if the story actually makes as much sense as I think it does.

Parts of it have aged really badly, and I cant believe it took me 12 years to watch it. Suprising still in lots of its plot twists

"Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" is an enjoyable film with solid acting and a well-told story.

This movie was godawful. All of the jokes were bad at best, but most were cringe-worthy awkward collisions that you had to wade through to find a punchline. The movie's conception of homosexuality is extremely questionable, and the metafictional soliloquies degrade into discussions of the audience's hygiene. I'm disappointed, Robert.

Goodd but forgettable.

What may have worked well in 2005 doesn't hold up in 2017. Black basically remade this movie with The Nice Guys and that one is much more enjoyable. Here, we have RDJ doing his usual shtick and Val Kilmer being Val Kilmer. The meta-commentary is basically Black taking his trademark screenwriting style and making it visible to the viewing audience. There's some fun to be had here, but the story is obnoxiously convoluted. I just didn't even know what was going on. But still funny at times.

maybe i should have waited more time after watching the nice guys before coming to this, but i was underwhelmed. the narration didn't do it for me, and the gay jokes got old very fast.
