Knives of the Avenger

Sluggish but Bava's cinematic touch pulls it through. The story itself is strong if not fully fleshed out. Cameron Mitchell does give an honest portrayal; one of his best.

Although it's often derided by fans, the slowish pace of K.O.T.A isn't really an issue because the focus is on character development rather than visuals, which are quite good but not as striking as they are in Bava's other viking films. Mitchell is commanding as a noble viking haunted by guilt, and his scenes with Pichelli are surprisingly tender and provide the emotional anchor for this gritty redemption story. An extended fight in a shadowy tavern is among Bava's best action sequences.

Facilmente transposto como western, tem alguns momentos sensacionais, em especial a luta entre Mitchell e Tozzi no bar, embora o resultado geral seja mediano.
