A very good, if understated, commentary on the dehumanization of war. Strong performances and visuals, I just wish it gave a bit more detail on the characters, even if I understand why the film didn't go that way.

A tense allegorical drama with great visuals and tight economical direction and performances. Unfortunately, it stumbles somewhat in its final act at a crucial moment, which prevents it from achieving potential greatness and perhaps explains its relative obscurity. Nonetheless, it is superior to many other Czech New Wave with stronger reputations, and it could be a grower.

Great use of music and the scenery.
