Koibumi

Feels like a first feature - some scenes hammer the same point and could be trimmed for a clearer and deeper investment in its characters. But I loved it as a cultural artifact: it feels like an authentic glimpse of the streets of the budding Economic Miracle, with handheld cameras, Western cafes, and night trains. It's no accident a major location is Hachiko in Shibuya - it is a story about lost connections, fractured masculinity and femininity, fidelity, finding forgiveness through compassion.

85 where "85' is highly recommended. This one is very interesting on a couple of fronts - well acted and (for me) really involving. Also the time, a post war Japan trying to regain it's culture. A movie about possibilities or impossibility, determined by turbulent thinking in turbulent times. liked that there was little over-emoting, uncommon in a "romance". Technically praised on IMDB (such things are beyond me) and historically important in Japan for having a female director - a near first.
