Ok so all in all here, there's some fun ape rampage, a good Gough performance, and a pleasingly splashy color scheme that's just early '60s as all get out, but Konga's undoing is that it's a 90 minute movie with a 70 minute premise. Scenes wander and ramble and basically the middle hour of it is pretty dull going. But the final shot of the corpses in the lonely street is actually really effective and weirdly poetic.

There was a real lack of ape stuff and too much plant stuff

Boring and not enough ape destruction

With a giant ape that's clearly someone in a gorilla suit, this falls into the "so bad it's good category" (tho I personally don't believe in that denomer). But what really makes this very watchable is a force de nature performance by Michael Gough

Michael Gough was very good (playing a very loony--not to mention goofy--character). But the rest of the movie wasn't. And that guy running around in the gorilla suit was just plain ludicrous. Things kept getting worse and worse (as did my rating of it all)...capped off by the final absurd twisteroo right at the end.

Pretty bad but still watchable for "so bad it's good" monster movie fun.
