Král Lávra

Cute puppet driven animation is more kid friendly than Zeman's other shorts, but that doesn't preclude its obvious charms. It is beautiful to look at with a vivid use of colour and boasting animation that is now precious largely due to its antiquated form. Not being familiar with the source material, it's difficult to comment on matters of fidelity, but Zeman's deceptively simple uobtrusive narrative style suits this fairy tale story of power and succession to a tee.
