A mini-masterpiece: perfect balance of romantic love-letter to L.A. and a gentle skewering of recognizable L.A. “types” and culture, wrapped in some genuinely warm and endearing whimsy. An excellent support cast know exactly how far to push their performances, with Parker perhaps the unexpected standout. Film belongs to Martin as star and writer; this may be the perfect distillation of his various comic personas (from wacky to “serious”) and it's clear he wears an aching heart on his sleeve.

Super quirky and weird concept. It's got a great cast of actors, though, and I think that I enjoyed the random cameos more than anything. Rick Moranis sporting a posh accent while digging out graves at the cemetery? Woody Harrelson as a loudmouth boss? Hells yeah. I just don't think that in general, I got as much from this as everyone else seemed to get. Didn't feel the romance, some of the laughs got old, but the cameos... yeah, those were good.

Very lame conclusion to a film that surprised me, and I thought it was funny enough and they were fairly original gags.

This is a quirky slapstick comedy film with Steve Martin. Lots of silly farcical stuff I enjoyed - its quite entertaining. Silly but certainly good natured fun and Patrick Stewart's appearance is quite amusing - he plays a somewhat Poirot-esque sounding character. Talk about the English vs Americans was a bit amusing. Some aspects of this film reminded me of a 1990s comedy starring Eddie Murphy. called 'Holy Man'. Recommended as a piece of daft & wacky comedy entertainment of the early 90s.

Steve Martin is so good that he makes you forget that LA is the biggest shithole. "She's not so young. She'll be 27 in four years."

At first the movie was pretty fun, but towards the end it just got kinda frustrating with all the relationships and lying. I know it's supposed to be the satire of LA but it just kinda grew annoying rather than amusing.

Mini sketches about the strangeness that is L.A. people, with a weird plot to tie them together (the sketches, not the people). Enjoyable Steve Martin screenplay.

With a whole lotta whimsy, L.A. Story is either a love letter or a rebuke of the City of Angels. Steve Martin is classically zany and leads the ship in an often Airplane type direction while still leaving room for a grown-up love story. Everything is smart while giving way to a surprising amount of laughs.

Viewed March 9, 2016. Steve Martin is the rare comic genius whose work is generally devoid of pure cynicism, and is all the better for it. Here, his love for his city is palpable - it's why he's able to skewer it so intricately - and his love for people even more so. It's easily among his most ambitious films and as such, it feels like his purest artistic statement.

Absolutely perfect. It's a 100 for me because of the absurd elements, like talking to a sign post or the notion that a sign post would have to come up with something in a hurry, or used to be a bagpipe...not just talking...submission...supplication? to a sign post...It shows desperation but also...some kind of bizarre equality among all objects in space.

The last top quality Steve Martin comedy. A super sharp script combines with several excellent comic performances to make an endearing and entertaining romantic comedy that improves with repeat viewings. Personally I've always had a fondness for this film, as I've always seen it as the last in Steve Martins run of excellent comedy's that he made during the 1980's and early 90's. After this it was all downhill for Stevo.

Reviewing: Actually this was really funny stuff. I liked a lot the fantasy part on it. It started better than ended, but the overall I enjoyed it much. Sad there's not that much fun in his flicks.

Although I dislike Sarah Jessica Parker with a passion, she actually doesn't detract from this quick, fun Steve Martin masterpiece.

There's a lot more to this movie than meets the eye; it's a love letter to the city of angels, a quirky comedy, a romance, a tribute to Shakespeare, and a character study.
